Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The National Right to Life Committee, on Tuesday, announced it is endorsing President George. W. Bush for re-election.
"President Bush has shown himself to be a great pro-life president," stated Carol Tobias, political director of the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC). "He has backed with actions his statement that unborn children should be 'welcomed in life and protected in law.'"
The pro-life group applauded several actions Bush has taken to protect human life, including reinstating the Mexico City Policy, which prohibits taxpayer funding of groups that perform or promote abortions in other countries. Bush also drew praise from NRLC for signing the partial-birth abortion ban and the Born Alive Infants Protection Act, which requires medical staff to provide proper medical care for unborn children who survive failed abortion attempts.
A statement issued by the pro-life organization said none of the Democratic candidates qualified for an endorsement because they all back abortion.
"A review of their records and statements shows that there is practically no difference in their very extreme positions on abortion," the pro-life group said.
NRLC says Senators Kerry, Edwards, and Lieberman all have "solid pro-abortion voting records" and that each voted against the ban on partial-birth abortions.
The pro-life group tagged Kerry for formally launching his presidential campaign with the promise to "only appoint Supreme Court Justices who will uphold a woman's right to choose."
Kerry also drew opposition from NRLC because of his position again the Unborn Victims of Violence bill, which would help prosecutors punish criminals for killing or injuring both a pregnant woman and her unborn child as a result of an assault against the mother.
Sharon Rocha, Laci Peterson's mother, has sent Kerry a letter asking him to reconsider this stance. Laci's husband Scott Peterson is currently on trial in the deaths of Laci and her unborn son Conner.
Meanwhile, Howard Dean and Wesley Clark oppose any reasonable limits on abortion, NRLC said in a press release. Dean will work to overturn the ban on partial-birth abortions while Clark told a New Hampshire newspaper he supports abortion until the day of birth with no legal limits.
"The Democratic candidates may be trying to outdo each other on who is the most pro-abortion, but President Bush's pro-life record is clear," stated Tobias. "He is helping to build a culture of life."
NRLC said Bush's pro-life stance will help him in the general election.
The group cites a study published by the Gallup Poll Special Report entitled "Public Opinion About Abortion -- An In-Depth Review." In the report, "the abortion issue has been an advantage for Republican candidates" for all six presidential elections from 1984 to 2000 because of the nominee's pro-life position.

... but... but... but how is this even possible, I ask you? I mean... I have it on the very best bestest authority, of all the "loyal conservatives" hereabouts lately, that George W. Bush isn't really conservative at all... < /sarcasm>

What you said! I love the way the GOP is always portrayed in the ever-lovin' media as the party that takes an "extreme" stand on abortion. Which party gagged a popular governor on the floor of its convention because he refused to toe the party line on abortion? Which party supports abortion at any time, for any reason, by any method, and believes it should be subsidized with tax dollars? Which party opposes parental involvement, informed consent, or allowing the baby's father to have any say in the decision? Which party believes the matter should remain locked up in the courts, out of the hands of the voters and their elected officials (never mind that it appears nowhere in the Constitution)? Couldn't be the one that calls itself "Democratic"!
Seriously, Bush and the GOP need to get that message out loud and clear: there is not an abortion on Earth the Democrats will oppose. Now, who's extreme?
