I've been a Marine for 17+ years.
Right now I serve as a Platoon Commander in a USMCR Rifle Company (which just returned from Iraq in August).
We don't usually discuss politics, but this subject hits close to home for us.
On Bush:
Most of the claims being made about his record are nothing more than a lack of understanding, of the language of the military. Those of us who know of these things read the "evidence" that DUers gleefully post, and chuckle at their unfamiliarity with all things military (what a surprise).
There's nothing to the allegations.
On Kerry:
All of my men, and my fellow officers find his record to be very disturbing. Kudos to him for a few moments of valor, BUT...
...he left Vietnam early. That tight crew who served under him on that swiftboat stayed there. Because he was "thrice wounded", he was allowed to leave. All of these wounds were minor, walking wounded wounds. But he went home early anyhow, leaving his men.
AND BEFORE THEY EVEN MADE IT HOME, HE WAS BAD-MOUTHING THEM, LYING ABOUT THEM, CALLING THEM RAPISTS AND MURDERERS, AND BETRAYING THEM BEFORE THE SENATE.
It's this, that we as Marines, find so dishonorable.

Thank you for your honorable service and welcome back home. My oldest brother is a Marine, he joined in 72 and retired at the end of 96. He doesn't much talk politics either, but every once in a while he'll speak up and it's not favorable to the Dems
