Two Cubans who once tried to float a vintage car to the United States are at it again. Marciel Basanta Lopez and Luis Gras Rodriguez have reportedly been spotted chugging toward U.S. soil in a 1950s vehicle converted into a boat.
The U.S. Coast Guard would not confirm the status of the floating car that was shown on television Tuesday in the waters south of Florida.
Relatives of Mr. Lopez and Mr. Rodriguez say they knew the men were planning to attempt the journey again.
Last July, the Coast Guard intercepted the two men as they made their way to Florida in a converted 1951 Chevy pick-up truck.
They were soon returned to Cuba with several others who had been on the truck. All applications for political asylum have been denied, except for one that is still being processed.
The United States generally allow Cubans who reach U.S. shores to stay, while those intercepted at sea are normally returned to Cuba.

I have a great idea. We send all the Cubans coming over back to Cuba with some advanced training armed with M-16s.

It's way past time for GM to rescue these guys and use them in a really awesome ad campaign.
And shouldn't our Coast Guard have better things to do than intercept and re-patriate folks like these, and sink their ultra-cool boats?

Fox reported earlier today that they're going to try the crossing in a '50's vintage Buick this time. At least this time the Cuban guys will be more comfortable as they paddle along, those old Buicks were pretty plush.
Actually, I don't find this situation amusing. I can't understand why we're so tough on a handful of Cubans risking their lives on the open sea trying to escape a cruel communist dictatorship and reach freedom, when we don't even try to stop thousands of Mexican illegals wading across a shallow river every night just for economic reasons.

I hear ya on this one. Pray for calm seas and hope that the President orders the Coast Guard to look the other way.

I'll second what Eggs said. I always cheer these Cubans on. Here's hoping they make it to shore.

I'm suprised Castro let these guys live long enough for a second escape attempt. I'm really afraid that if the Coasties intercept and return them, they're as good as dead.
