SANAA, Yemen, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A purported statement by al-Qaida in Yemen warned Saturday of a "major strike" soon in the United States.

The statement, distributed by the Yemeni Tagamoo Party for Reforms, said: "A major strike, a big event will take place in America soon," reminiscent of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Baking soda triggers anthrax scare at Philly hotel

A white powder that turned out to be baking soda used by a hotel guest to brush his teeth triggered an anthrax scare yesterday at a Center City hotel in Philadelphia. A maid cleaning a seventh-floor room at the Windsor Hotel and Residential Apartments found a white envelope containing the powder. She brought it to her supervisor, who put it in a plastic bag and called police.

Fire department hazardous materials crews descended on the hotel shortly before 9 a.m. along with police, fire and city officials. Police said initial tests of the powder were positive for anthrax, but later tests indicated it was baking soda.

Seven hotel employees were quarantined for several hours before the all-clear was given at about 12:30 p.m.

IMO, many of these "scares" are just people who have watched the news and now freak out at the sight of "white powder"....heck, back in the 80s, they would have dipped their finger in it to see if it was party time.

That is odd. I thought they were designated as terrorists groups back in 2/3/03? Before we launched in Iraq? I remember them being acknowledged as terror groups as a head nod to Russia. That was done trying to get Russia on board for support in the UN vote.

Last night I thought I heard (caught tail end of ricin story on local news) that something suspicious, possibly ricin, was found in Fayetteville, N.C. Beef isn't the only potential source of nvCJD. Eating sheep with scrapie or elk that have been fed infected offal is another possible route. Colorado has had an outbreak of a BSE like disease in elk that were offered tainted feed by people trying to "help" them through a hard winter.

Was watching CNN at lunch and they had reported that 'CHechen Rebels' had DENIED the bombing. Now I find that odd for a terrorist organization to deny a terroist act.
