GEARING UP FOR GRAMMYS

America's hottest musicians are tuning up for the biggest night of their year.

The Grammy Awards ceremony is the most prestigious in the US music calendar and this year's show is set to be better than ever.

Urban music dominates the nominations, with R&B and rap artists Beyonce Knowles, Pharrell Williams, Jay-Z and OutKast leading the way with six each.

Sting already has 15 Grammys and has been nominated for two more this year.

He will lead a tribute to The Beatles to mark the 40th anniversary of their first American TV appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show.

But it would not be the Grammys without controversy.

American authorities have refused to let five Cuban nominees - three of them from Beuna Vista Social Club fame - travel to the show because of visa issues.

Janet Jackson will also miss out amid the furore following her Super Bowl performance with Justin Timberlake.

But there is little chance of any slip ups at the Grammys.

The live broadcast will be shown with a prolonged delay so there is more time to edit out the unexpected.

If there is an official thread, I hope it gets no more than three comments because no one here is watching.

By the way, did you hear Hillary got a Grammy nomination for the audio reading of her book?

Talk about set ups. I wonder if she told the Grammy's, she would not appear unless she was guaranteed to win like she did with her last book.

I wonder if she's offered to sing a duet with Justin Timberlake?

The only part of the show worth watching is the part they don't show on TV - the jazz, classical and film score awards.

BELIEVE ME I don't watch them either, but I certainly like to read the comments on freerepublic after. That is what I did with some of the RAT debates, didn't give it air time but skimmed through the Live threads later that evening.
Very entertaining, we have some real comedians here on FR.
LOL
