Don't just make numbers up off the top of your head, it's unbecoming and frankly insulting that you'd think I'd believe such an outrageous number. The BEST Christianity does in the surveys is about 60%, which was the basis for my 150,000,000. There are LARGE numbers of people in this country that aren't religious or are religious but not Christian.

People don't look for answers in the movie theater. Perhaps not but, they may just come away with some after viewing this film.
To: discostu
Sorry, I wasn't finished. :o)
Why would people who have no interest in Jesus have an interest in Jesus?
People who have no interest in Jesus may see a film about Jesus simply because of the publicity, acclaims, and what have you. I believe that there will be many non religious people who will see this film. I also believe that some of them will be changed. Some will not.

My husband knows him better than I and says he's really a decent guy. And I believe that being in business for himself and in the line of work he's in that he's basically an honest person. (He'd have to be to stay in business)
I really can't explain his irrationality on this except his synagogue has been preaching against the movie.
His reaction astonished and disappointed both of us.

Yeah so. Jews are non-religious people. They are not in the group I said deny the He ever even existed.
A lot of people on this thread see "non-religious" and read "non-Christian" these groups are not the same. I'm refering EXCLUSIVELY to the former, which is a subsection of the later but not even close to the whole group.

It's just a simple matter of demographics. People without religion in their lives have no compelling reason to see Passion.
And, yet, two people who are not Christians, one a Jew and another unknown, on this thread, out of about 15 people who posted, have indicated that they definitely will be going.
What you are professing is your beliefs, which are not the same as all other non-Christian and/or non-religious people. I think many will come out of pure curiosity. Many because of the controversy stirred up by the ADL. Many because it will be considered a "successful" film, and for many other reasons.
I predict that some people will come without any specific reason, other than the fact that they are draw to it, by God, by curiosity, by controversy, by success, by critics (both kinds), and by reasons completely unknown.
Hmmm, kinda just like Jesus, Himself, when He was here 2000 years ago.
Nobody's going to make you go. But, you probably ought to. :-)

I have atheist friends who are obsessed with this film. And there's this: any issue of Time or Newsweek that has Christ on its cover is a sell-out. Most serious Christians don't read those rags. People are curious, though, about Jesus. He has an iconic power that transcends religion.

Exactly, you nailed it with the term 'cultural phenomenon.' Its becoming a larger than life film, kinda like the Ten Commandments or Roots. Also agree that its impact with be subtle.

I know that there are others here at FR...pipe up. Going, or not?
So far we've heard from one confirmed (I'm assuming here) that's not, and we have one "unknown" who is.
Any other "non-religious" (agnostic, atheist, non-religious Jew - I'm assuming that you would count them - secular humanist) going or not going?
To: discostu
...only religious people will be going. That is not true. I have 6 non religious friends who are going with me and 14 other religious people to see this movie. My brother bought his tickets tonight and he and his wife are not religious at all. I imagine that there are many non religious people who are going. I think that you are going to be surprised. There will be many who are not religious who will see this movie if for nothing else but the artistic value of it.
To: PleaseNoMore
I think the subsection of non-religious people that actually are religious but for whatever reason are in denial might see the movie depending on how vehement their denial is (IMHO that's the same section that's responsible for a lot of the stupid civil cases that assault Christianity so there's a bunch that won't go near it). Truly non-religious people won't be interested, this isn't a fault of the movie it's just how things go. People that truly have no interest in sports probably aren't going to see Miracle (which was amazing BTW, highly recommend it), because it's just not in their circle of thought. People that think blacklight and velvet posters are home decoration don't watch Trading Spaces, because it's just not in their circle of thought. People that aren't religious aren't going to watch Passion, because it's just not in their circle of thought.

I'm not too interested in Ghandi. But I went to see the movie because I heard it was well made. This is a work of art, besides everything else.

It might hurt a candidate like Kerry who is supposedly half Jewish.
To: Texas2step
Well the Jew isn't on my list of people that won't see the movie. The non-Christians I don't know because they might or might not be on my list.
I'm not professing beliefs at all. I'm professing basic marketing, everything has a target demographic they're hoping to grab, everything has a demographic they know they can't get. The demographic this movie can't get is the non-religious.

Will The Movie "The Passion" affect the...2004 Presidential Election? Evidently yes, because the Leftist are in full cry against it. And it is not because they fear antisemitic pogroms, either.

Well apparently Christians read those rags when Jesus is on the cover. I'm not saying the movie won't make money, the religious demographic in this country is huge.

I am not a sci fi fan (at all) but I have gone and seen sci fi movies. I don't care for westerns (at all) but I have seen them. The same for many other types of movies; I wasn't interested in the topic but heard that the movies were good so I went. There will be many people who aren't religious who will see this movie.
