I agree, but we need to stay away from 'Nam and focus on today. I see a lot of people trying to do a Kerry - Fonda thing on this board and the truth is that a majority of Americans are probably sympathetic to those who fought in 'Nam and won't take criticism of a person who fought and got some medals so it will look bad on TV.

I think you're totally missing the point.
You said "the truth is that a majority of Americans are probably sympathetic to those who fought in 'Nam and won't take criticism of a person who fought and got some medals so it will look bad on TV.".
That might be true, IF the person who fought in Viet Nam didn't come back and call US soldiers there "war criminals", consort with Hanoi Jane, organize anti-war protests and organizations, use fake "veterans" as evidence of said war crimes, throw "his" medals over the White House fence then later admit they were someone's elses medals and his are on his office wall, lie about running for congress to get out of Viet Nam then NOT run... should I continue? The hypocracy of John Kerry is overwhelming and needs to be brought to the light.
I think we have one of Moby's trolls here.

Depends on who is talking. If GWB argues Kerry's Purple Hearts were awarded to a well connected political type who, in 2/3 cases didn't miss any work due to his 'injuries'...he'll get clobbered! GWB's service was adequate, but Kerry faced more danger overall (and my Dad flew F-102s, among many other planes).
On the other hand, if I point out Kerry's injuries were, IMHO, well below Purple Heart status, and that he immediately applied for a return trip home after the third...well, let's just say my co-workers today were as disgusted as I was.
We need to distinguish between arguements GWB should use in commercials, and arguements we can use with co-workers.
