Two days ago, I posted an article entitled, Lawmakers debate Mexican ID cards. This desribes the legislative attempt to allow use of a matricula consular card as bonafide identification for a Washington State Driver's license.
I have composed a form letter to send to your state representative opposing this bill. The letter is posted below. Feel free to send it word for word or change it any way you like. I just want as many people to voice their opposition to this travesty as possible.
If you want the letter as an MS Word document, feel free to private freepmail me with an email address

Dear
I read in my local newspaper, the _______, about the consideration of House bill 3029--authorizing the use of Mexican consular photo identification cards for identification purposes.
I cannot tell you how reprehensible I find this bill.
There are the obvious philosophical arguments against this bill, including the fact that the illegal immigrants are here illegally. In addition to aiding and accommodating illegal behavior, it is a slap in the face to immigrants who are trying to establish esidence in a legal manner.
Another philosophical argument against this bill is that immigrants already have the capacity to obtain a driver's license in this state without any proof of citizenship, as they only need five "alternate" documents, none of which are dependent upon having legal residence in this country: see-- http://www.dol.wa.gov/ds/id.htm
A specific argument against this bill is the following: HB 3029 authorizes (as in requires) the department of licensing to "adopt rules governing the use of the matricula consular as identifying documentation for the purposes of obtaining a driver's license." The matricula consular card does not even include a physical description of its owner.
The September 11th hijackers were able to finance their activities through bank and credit card fraud after they established multiple bank accounts in this country. This bill will only make it easier for future terrorists to establish similar financial credentials in this country based on an identification card that could be easily obtained using a fraudulent Mexican birth certificate.
The applicant for the matricula consular card does have to present a birth certificate to the Mexican Consulate. However, how much due-diligence will the Mexican Consulate perform prior to issuing the matricula consular card?
If you cannot confidently answer the question regarding the veracity of the matricula consular card and its supporting documents, you cannot allow this bill to pass.
Sincerely,
Washinton State representative who are sponsoring this bill include: Representatives Fromhold, Kenney, Moeller, Quall, Lovick, Sommers, Santos, Lantz, Conway, Upthegrove: give them heck, if they are your "representatives."
