BP staff ill after opening package

Police are carrying out chemical tests at the Moscow office of BP after staff fell ill following the arrival of suspicious mail.

The British firm's employees suffered headaches, rashes and felt a stinging in their eye after handling mail that had arrived from Houston, Texas.

A spokesman for BP in London said the office had received a parcel "which had a substance on the outside of the package which is now being tested by the authorities.

Police experts are testing the air and the mail for chemicals, but have found no powder or liquid inside the envelopes.

"We are now waiting for the results," BP spokesman Toby Odone said. He didn't specify what the substance was or what it looked like, and said that all BP staff members were well and added that none had fallen sick.
