Ever since the 9/11 atrocity in New York City and Washington, D.C., President George Bush has led the free world in a relentless, world-wide war against terrorism. He realized immediately that all the prior attacks by Al-Qaeda and other related Islamic terrorist organizations in effect signals that his predecessor chose to ignore for the most part can be ignored no longer. He understands that the free world, with the U.S. at its head, is facing the equivalent of World War III. This time, the enemy is not Nazism, but radical Islam anti-West, anti-U.S. and anti-Semitic.
Europe has been very slow to realize the threat to its way of life from Islam, despite the influx of millions of Moslems to its shores from North Africa. France is still so bedeviled by its traditional anti-U.S. enmity that, despite the clear and present danger to its culture and democratic institutions posed by some six millions Moslems (which represent about ten percent of its population and growing much faster than its Christian majority), it was adamantly unwilling to join the coalition against Saddam Hussein.
Until now, in contrast to French and German lack of resolve in the war on Islamic terror, the U.S. could always count on one ally Israel. For that tiny state, confronted on three sides by hostile enemies (formal treaties with Egypt and Jordan notwithstanding), has been in the forefront of the West's war against Arab terror since its birth in 1948.
Israel's Arab neighbors cut their teeth in their war against the West by incessant attacks on the state they see as the West's proxy in their neighborhood. And for fifty-five years, Israel has been bravely fighting off fedayeen bands, armies and suicidal terrorists all bent on driving it into the sea. Since 1987, Israel has been suffering a series of wars by the same Arabs under a new banner. They now call themselves "Palestinians" a name that did not exist until Israel recaptured its Biblical heartland in the 1967 Six Day War. Until then, those same Arabs were content to be called Jordanians.
Incredible as it seems, the dominant, most successful and most feared Israeli individual in the wars against the Arabs Ariel Sharon has turned soft on terror. Very soft. One can only conjecture as to the reasons maybe due to personal psychological factors, loss of faith in G-d, brainwashing by his leftist sons, and the endless barrage of anti-Zionist, anti-patriotic diatribe by the leftist media but the bottom line is that Ariel Sharon has succumbed. He is no longer able to lead Israel in the war against terror, and he is no longer able to defend Israel against the onslaught of Arab terror, not from Hamas, Hizbollah, nor from Yasser Arafat and his "Palestinian Authority".
However, instead of admitting that he is tired and allowing a younger man to replace him, he insists on carrying on not the war effort, but a massive surrender effort to terror. Ariel Sharon has decided to abandon U.S. President George Bush's "roadmap", a cornerstone of which was the absolute eradication of all terrorist activities and organizations in the Palestinian controlled territories, as a pre-condition to any diplomatic rapprochement. He has decided to abandon all Israeli settlements in Gaza unilaterally and without any Palestinian concessions. He has decided to uproot several strategically located Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria, again without any concessions, and he has committed himself to a Palestinian terrorist state, without first insisting on the disbanding of all terrorist organizations by the Palestinians. Never has surrender been more blatant, more shocking, more senseless.
Israel's survival is in question, but much more is at stake. The world-wide war on terror has taken a huge step backward.
George Bush's foremost ally in the war against terror has completely capitulated. By doing so, he has increased the terrorists' appetite for more terror. Hizbollah, the Tanzim, Fatah, Hamas - all are rejoicing, for a major player in their war on the West has collapsed.
The shockwaves of this quake will not be long in arriving on the shores of the U.S. and Europe. The terrorist shout heard around the world is: "Ariel Sharon has been defeated!"
Sharon has betrayed the war against terror and President Bush's doctrine of fighting terror wherever it rears its ugly head. The president must reject Sharon's surrender plans the surrender of Gaza, the premature creation of a Palestinian state, the creation of a defense barrier between pre- and post-1967 Israel. These are not ways of fighting terror; they are ways of surrender to terror. The free world cannot afford such weakness, such a betrayal of President Bush and his doctrine.
Interesting title, but when it comes to Palestinian terror Sharon hasn't betrayed Bush any more than Bush has betrayed Bush.
Sharon is a conservative, like Bush (well, sort of at least that is how both of them are perceived by the Left). As such, the Left also represents them as being borderline retarded (how else could one disagree with our enlightened would-be masters?). Both of them are, however, quite a bit more intelligent than the average person (how else do you become #1 in your country's political structure?), and use this underestimation by their respective opposition like a skilled judo master uses his opponent's strength against him. The same applies to the REAL enemies, the Arab terrorist organizations, who have bought into the Left's thesis about their stupidity because that is what the terrrorists want to believe. This, too, is used to advantage by both.
Again, Sharon has something up his sleeve, as evidenced by the US's opposition to a Gaza pullout. Look under the surface to find the truth (I haven't found it yet, but it isn't what this writer thinks it is).
