LOS ANGELES (AP) - If anyone's ever promised you the sun, the moon and the stars, tell 'em you'll settle for BPM 37093.
The heart of that burned-out star with the no-nonsense name is a sparkling diamond that weighs a staggering 10 billion trillion trillion carats. That's one followed by 34 zeros.

In related news, the Hasidic community announced their plan to build a giant starship with really big diamond cutting tools.Don't need a spaceship. Just tether yourself to Liz Taylor and float along ....

what the gravity there would be If it crushes coal into diamonds, it is so strong it would crush an SUV to a thickness of a picture of an SUV. Not the paper the picture is printed on, the ink on the paper.

Is it just me or is ovrtxt's (#3) tag line offensive? Only to Muslims or people who care that Muslims might be offended
Which doesn't describe a huge majority of people on FR. Or me.

LOL!!! Maybe eventually NASA can start paying for it's own missions and help out with the national debt as well. Good motivator for getting the lead out of their arses and start delivering the starships and space cruisers we've been dreaming about for 50 years.
To: SauronOfMordor
Yeah, I've backed off from it. I think my tooth pain made me do it. LOL!

It's probably been about 20 years since Arthur Clarke suggested that the center of Jupiter might be a moon sized diamond due to the fact that spectroanalysis showed carbon to be one of the heaviest elements detected on Jupiter and naturally the heaviest elements might be expected to settle in the center of the planet where they would endure crushing pressures, very high heat and millennia of both. Pretty prescient of the guy
To: NormsRevenge
The diamond is a massive chunk of crystallized carbon that lies about 300 trillion miles from Earth, in the constellation Centaurus. Assuming I didn't misplace a decimal, that's only 51 light-years away.
To: NormsRevenge
Very cool.
Did you just see Bobby Labonte on Hardball with Chris Matthews? If not checkout the rerun. I'll try to remember to post a link to the transcript on the 500 thread when it's available.
