I prefer that chocolate remain inexpensive. If West Africa prices themselves out of the market, I'm sure that some enterprising souls will set up a cocoa industry in China. So be it.

Fair trade cocoa is produced by cooperatives whose operations are certified by Fairtrade Labeling Organizations (FLO) as complying with certain standards. Fair Trade cooperatives must be democratically organized and non-discriminatory; they must prohibit abusive child labor and maintain a "social fund" used by the community to improve living conditions and crop diversification and environmental quality.
Sounds like a centralized organization and who controls the "social fund"? No wonder they cannot compete.

These people just can't resist pushing their agenda on every company and holiday, can they? They need a long walk off a short pier...

Global justice advocates are urging U.S.-based companies... Yet more communist bullshit from these losers. Why aren't they protesting against European chocolate companies? Last I heard, France (ugh!), Germany, Belgium, Holland, and Switzerland were the chocolate capitals of the world.

I am targeting chocolate today, too! The chocolate truffles my son got me are right on target! Ready, aim, gulp! I would love to target in on some gold jewelry, and I also am enjoying my long stem red roses that my honey bear hubby got me. Tonight we will go out to dinner in Houston and maybe I will target some beef and wine too! LOL

The leftists typically condemn traditional Christianity and Judaism because of judgemental things like the Ten Commandments that make people feel guilty, etc. But if you look around, there is virtually nothing the left says it is okay to enjoy (unless it involves perverted sex). Leftists hate it whenever anyone is enjoying life -- they want to load everyone down with numerous prohibitions and restrictions -- enjoying anything normal in life is a great sin that people must be forced to atone for.

Ever notice these activists never approach the government of these African countries and insist they oust the dictators and replace them with a more democratic form of government.
And I betcha these same activists have some M&M's in their homes and a few pieces of gold jewelry.
To them, every corporation in America is a mean, evil entity - except corporations like movie producing corporations, record producing corporations, television producing corporations, news corporations - any corporation that provides filth to the citizens and propaganda of the liberal persuasion. Can't touch them - they have a right to pollute minds.

so that West African cocoa farmers won't need to use abusive child labor to make an adequate living. BBWWWAAAHHHAAA!
Any FReeper who believes these farmers will stop this practice instead of pocketing the higher profits, raise your hand!
