If the Holy See believes that the United Nations is to become a "moral center", they are mistaken.
What a profound misunderstanding of human nature!

...or is it because the Vatican elevates peace over freedom? Calling for an end to wars while Iraqis were being massacred and North Koreans are still under the yoke of tyranny strikes some as, "Pull up the ladder, Jack, I'm alright!"

> Last year's debate over the U.S.-led military intervention in Iraq left some Catholics wondering why the Church seemed so supportive of the United Nations. How is it, they asked, that an organization that promotes abortion, artificial birth control and radical feminism is viewed so favorably by the Church?
If you want the right answer, you have to begin by asking the right question. They don't here. The question isn't the RCC's endorsing an international organization that has flaws; it's the RCC's endorsing that, or any, international organization's right to determination over sovereign nation-states, and its doing so by taking a fatally obtuse moral stand against a just war.

I have to respectfully disagree with the Vatican here.
I look at this way. What is the UN at its core? It is a bunch of unelected bureaucrats. What is most important to them? Their jobs.

Sigh. Why does the Vatican do this to us? It's so exasperating.
I'm going to go off and find a few Catholics to ping for their input.

John Paul II reiterated his call for the United Nations to become a "moral center" and "a family of nations." New Springtime ping

"considers the United Nations organization a significant means for promoting the universal common good." Based on what? That they steal money? That they think tyrants are A-ok and the majority of them are tyrants? That they throw out free nations to make room for murdering thugs?
What color is the sky in their world? Name me three good things the UN has done please. Just three in almost 60 years. That shouldn't be to hard should it?
