What a bogus headline. They don't back gay marriage, they just oppose mucking around with the Constitution. Two different things.

Oh, I would tinker with the 2nd a little to make it clear that individual gun ownership by law abiding citizens is a right. However, regarding a Constitutional Amendment to define marriage as a union between a male and a female I might tend to support it for fear that the U.S. Supreme court might get goofy enough to find some "right" in the Constitution for homosexuals to marry, like they found a "right" to abortion.

Mucking around with the constitution will solve nothing at all. The judges are rapidly reaching the point where they can successfully declare parts of the constitution itself unconstitutional because judges are the ultimate lawgivers in our society. The 2nd amendment will probably be the first part to be stricken in this formal way in addition to being contradicted by interpretation as has been occurring to greater and greater extent.

We have abjured impeachment of judges for anything more than simple venality and react to any legal atrocity by solemnly declaring that it is the law of the land and though we might not like it we must obey it. Earlier presidents did not tremble before judges. Modern presidents and the Congress rule only as permitted by the judges. When the Republic depends for its survival on electing the right man as president in order that the right men may be chosen as judges, then the basis for the Republic has ceased to exist. The illusion of the Republic exists only insofar as judges choose to allow it.

Those that "fear"amendments either have no understanding of how judicial rullings can be overcome. This was no a ruling based on law, the SJC interprited the Mass constitution. only a constitutional amendment can override the SJC to establish them as wrong.

Law are overturned all the time and subsequent laws put in their place. However if a constitution is ruled to do something only an amendment can undo that something. (or ofcourse a subsequent rulling overturning the first rulling. see lawrence.)

It is too late for cowardice now. The planes have hit the buildings and the planes have torpedoed the ships. Time to rumble.

Agreed with that. Gay marriage is already banned in 39 states and they certainly seem to have no problem with states banning it. The ONLY "Republicans" who actually support more gay marriage are RINOs.
