Explosive Story: GOP has asked British SS to bug phones of American political candidates!
Posted on 02/15/2004 8:36:43 AM PST by Hillary's Lovely Legs
FOX NEWS 11:25am EST 2-15-2004
Fox news is interviewing John Loftus, Formers Justice Department Prosectutor who states that he has an inside scoop that "the Republican Party has asked the British Secret Service to bug phones of American political Candidates. "
FOX NEWS Eric Shawn: "It's a very serious and very shocking story."
JOHN LOFTUS: "That allegation seems very storng of that is the case. Why would any political party want to bug someone else?
It's a juicy way of running a smear campaign behind the works. We have been doing that for about 50 years and it started with president Roosevelt. He had signed a secret treaty with Britian in 1943 that let them each set up listening posts on each other's soil with no search warrants. It's a great little scheme. "
"So the British can use American computers to bug American politicians, and the Americans can use British computers to bug British politicians and each side can truthfully say that they aren't spying on their own citizens. They are just trading information under the table."
ERIC: How widespread is this. Members of the Security Council admitted to me that they are being bugged and that it wasn't surprising, they expected that.
JOHN: "What congress doesn't realise is that this is meant to favor one party only. In 1978 Carter tried to ban taping without a court order. So the bill is that the NSA cannot target american citizens, but not other countries from doing it. "

This is NEWS? I guess it maybe, if you have been living under a rock for a few decades. I am sure that all of Klintoon's phone sex with Monica L. is on a secure hard drive in England. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
CONTINUING ( I am typing this from TIVO, so these are word for word )
JOHN: " American computers record every long distance phone call everywhere in America all day. Targeting means that they sift through that haystack to find the needle. They program it to search for a democratic candidate's voice and retrieve all conversations. The British foreign liaison information cannot be shared with congress, because of the 1943 law. So the democrats don't know that the British are listening to all of their phone calls. They old spy base used to be at 218 Pennsylvania Ave, and it was moved to the Canadian Embassy right opposite of Capitol Hill. Because on the west side of the capitol are where all the offices are with views of the Washington Monument. "
ERIC: " We hear about all this spying and alleged spying and I am sure that we will be hearing about more "..
End of segment

This may have more to do with foreign funds coming in from overseas via Great Britain.
I'd like to hear more.

Next Scandal? :
I was just watching an interview on Fox News and this journalist was on a segment which they call "The Scoop" with Eric Shaun. Anyway, the man he was interviewing said he was going to break a story this week that the Republican Party is having the United Kingdom bug/tap phones at the DNC and their candidates. Apparently there is a loophole that allows the UK to do it for us and for us to do it for him but he is going to spread out more evidence that this is going on right now.
I expect this to become the next media feeding fenzy.
Anything to avoid the Kerry story...?

Here's my take on what the "logic" of this story will be:
Echelon in the UK monitors all US calls.
The DNC makes phone calls in the US.
Therefore, Echelon is monitoring the DNC.
The White House has access to Echelon intercepts.
The White House is run by a GOP president.
Therefore, the GOP is telling the UK to bug the DNC.
Whereas, the reality is that this stuff has been going on for decades, and is independent of the GOP and the Dems, other than our reps keep allowing it to happen.

I love when someone writes "all's fair in love and war" -- so in other words we go after everyone using sleazy tactics that clearly are sleazy or there would be no trouble admitting it, right? Then if the other side does something we wrap ourselves in history and principle and say it's shocking. I guess I mistakenly thought us conservatives stood for PRINCIPLEs...but I'm wrong seeing the size of our budget, people sitting back on the new immigration amnesty, and going along with the prescription drug plan. Principle is out the window if we condone this. And if the it is confirmed and the Democrats use it, it's good for the country that it comes out and is stopped. I think the new rule is: whatever the president says is right because he's our man. Whatever the president does is right, because he's our man. If it violates the written and unwritten rules in our democracy, it's all right, because he's our man. If it goes totally against conservative philosphy, it's all right because he's our man. I wish there was a third party in this country that believed in principle since I increasingly think I'll stay home and microwave left over pizza on election day.

First of all Loftus is a democrat.
Loftus is suing Saudi Arabia on behalf of some WTC victims. Therefore, every trail he finds always leads to Saudi Arabia.
He is often incorrect in his pronouncements.

John Loftus serves on a pro-muslim board and from reading his website, he is not very pro-Bush.
To: Hillary's Lovely Legs
If this is true, it had better be because the people involved are suspected of treason. If it isn't true, then FNC better bloody well find out who started this smear and why. And doesn't this qualify as a rumor, anyway? Didn't FNC just get through making perfectly clear on its Sunday show that FNC is not in the business of investigating rumor?

And I suppose the missing FBI files with the Hildebeast's prints on them wasn't Watergate material ??Why would you suppose that. Unauthorized access to information would certainly be a crime in my book. I'm really getting tired of the "they all do it" routine tho. Is the only purpose of politics to place the party each side thinks is slightly less corrupt than the other in office?

I think this is common (having a foreign government spy on American citizens to get around constitutional and legal considerations). I don't think there is anything illegal about it. Why would anyone object to the government violating no laws?

Just so you know, Loftus thinks the Bush family is filled with Nazis and he also works with Bob Fertik, a known Clintonite...just want to give a bit of perspective here.

Echelon doesn't monitor voice, it monitors data.It monitors both:
Echelon is perhaps the most powerful intelligence gathering organization in the world. Several credible reports suggest that this global electronic communications surveillance system presents an extreme threat to the privacy of people all over the world. According to these reports, ECHELON attempts to capture staggering volumes of satellite, microwave, cellular and fiber-optic traffic, including communications to and from North America. This vast quantity of voice and data communications are then processed through sophisticated filtering technologies.
