What kind of community is Newton? I would hope that the attitude you describe is more common in Cambridge and other areas where the proportion of brain numbing PhD's is highest. I'd suspect the reaction in South Boston or other working class areas would be the same as mine, but maybe not. While it makes me glad I don't live in Massachusetts (we have friends who do but they don't have school age kids), I sincerely pity the children of anyone who would find this tolerable, much less desirable. God help them, literally, God help them.

Newton is a large, liberal, western suburb of Boston. It's like Cambridge meets Eddie Bauer, if you know what I mean.

The worst areas of Massachusetts are P-town, Newton, Cambridge, and the "Happy Valley," Northampton and Amherst.

But, indifferentism reigns elsewhere. In the mid-90s an X-rated (no exaggeration) "safe sex" presentation was given to jr. high kids in Chelmsford by Suzi Landolphi, a comedienne by trade. I read the transcript, and it's utterly revolting. You may be able to find the lawsuit and story if you search on "Hot, Sexy and Safer." (Yes, that was the name of the presentation).

At one point in the presentation, a Christian girl tried to leave the auditorium, but the staff blocked her exit. No kidding. Her parents sued the school. The suit made the papers. The parents were dimissed as right-wing extremists until someone leaked a video of the event. The story made the Herald, but the transcript was mildly paraphrased and the tempest quickly died down. The parents' suit was dismissed.

Again, I blame the parents for putting up with this.
