I think you are nearly as Brilliant as Bill Simon in California who figured out how to easily get defeated by Gray Davis most hated Democrat governor in history.

The only time trashing the other parties candidate works is in a primary. And it only works then when your primary opponents have no positive agenda. The Democrats have no agenda except defeat Bush. That will not work.

The democrats are trying the same thing that Gray Davis used on Simple Simon in California. If they can just get Bush to respond in kind they win or at least get a draw. Because when two candidates get in a nasty fight the center sees no difference and doesn't vote at all. In a normal Governors race in California, 10 million people vote, but Simon trashing Davis and Davis trashing Simon resulted in only 6 million turning out and Davis of course won.

Dirty vicious campaigns serve the same purpose that trash talk in a football game. They trash talkers hope to make the better team loose its cool and make dumb mistakes that turn the center off.

Trashing your opponent is a desperation tactic. It was first tried against Thomas Jefferson in 1800. It did not work. It was tried in 1838 against Andrew Jackson. It did not work. It was tried in 1860 and 1864 against Abraham Lincoln and it did not work. In fact that nasty campaign tactic is a failure as long as the candidate attacked does not respond in kind.

Swing voters decide every election. And swing voters vote for the man they like who will do the most for them. Attacking Bush will not do anything for those swing voters.

Many if not most elections are decided by a popularity contests. It is hard to be popular when you spend your time trashing others.

Bush will win the popularity contest hands down... just has he did against Ann Richards in Texas in 1994. Ann brought up the military record, his business contacts, and constantly called George W. Bush by the name of Shrub.

She thought putting him down would really work. Democrats laughed like hell, when Bush constantly called Ann Richards ... Governor Richards. He never once trashed her. She trashed him and he was very courteous in return.

Of course after the Election he got to call her ex Governor Richards and that really ticked her off.

Bill Clinton never played to his base. He did not Trash either George H.W. Bush or Bob Dole. Clinton knows how to win elections. So does George W. Bush. Kerry and the rest of the Dmeocrats don't know any more than you do about winning.

Kerry is going to make it look like beating Dukakis was hard.

Unfortunately, I don't think Cheney is young and healthy enough to run on his own in 2008. Shouldn't Bush think about a Vice President who could be the 2008 party candidate?

I agree with your first sentence, but not the second. Much as I admire Mr. Cheney (it appears his brilliance is just too refined for some to take it in :-), I would be dubious about electing him President in his state of health.

However, I think it's in both President Bush's and the party's interests to have a VP who will do his own job without Presidential ambitions, without spending all his time fundraising for his own campaign, without stirring up potential scandals for the current administration.

In addition, Vice Presidents running for President are a total snooze, and discourage more innovative and appealing candidates from making the effort to overcome the name recognition factor. After Bush-Cheney 2004, I would like to see a real competition for the 2008 nomination, hopefully bringing a vibrant and committed Conservative to the top! A younger, healthy Dick Cheney might have been that person, but we're going to need someone else in 2008.

Kerry is already swinging, and Bush/Cheney are just taking the punches. Someone has got to fight back. It's got to be Cheney. Where is he?

I loved that one! And the one where Lieberman talked about the greater opportunities in the private sector, and Cheney handing him his *ss as he said something like (paraphrasing): "And we'll do our best to see that you get the opportunity to go there, Joe."

Smooth, smart, deadly wit; he's a great team member with our President. I'm beginning to think this thread was posted by yet another Moby/Kerry mole. It's so transparent when they have "no recollection" of great Republican moments. That debate between Cheney and Lieberman showed that our team had what it takes to return sanity to the WH.

"The Mayor" is very popular and this is especially true in NY, but I'm not sure he'd give Bush the state because there's too many commie libs down state. I think their hatred of Bush would keep them from voting for the ticket.
But more important...
We need to save Rudy for 2006 when he runs against Hitlary in the Senate!
Rudy will sent her back to Arkansas where she belongs!
Without that Senate seat it will be tougher for Hitlary to run for Pres. in 2008!

It really disgusts me to see this I Want Cheney Off The Ticket CRAP"

Me too. Especially the barely-disguised "We need to replace Cheney with a Liberal" crap. Last year, and the year before that, it was his HEALTH they pretended to be concerned about.

Not only is Giuliani a liberal, he comes with a lot of baggage attached. And I'm saying that as someone who loves him. :D

I really thought you were being sarcastic about Lieberman winning the debate over Cheney. I don't agree at all! Cheney was masterful. Cheney gets my vote.

I can't help but question your name as well as your post. You obviously haven't EVER listened to Dick Cheney speak, or you wouldn't make such unfounded observations. Cheney will make whomever he debates look like an ignorant wanna-be. You need to know that Dick Cheney makes the E.F. Hutton crowd sound noisy.

"I see Dick, from the newspapers, that you're better off than you were eight years ago too," Lieberman said.

Cheney replied: "And I can tell you Joe that the government had absolutely nothing to do with it."

That could've been the line of the campaign!!!

You are exactly correct. Another vote for Cheney. Cheney has total recall of the facts while thinking on his feet. He uses logic, something foreign to liberals who only express feelings. Cheney is the MAN!

I don't think Cheney is young and healthy enough

I just checked and Cheney was born in 1941. Senator Heinz was born 1943. President Bush was born in 1946.

Who's too old?

As far as his health. He's been working on it more than I have. I'm sure he wouldn't run if he knew his health was a potential issue.

Clearly you haven't been following Cheney.

Getting dirty does not mean screaming and shouting. Getting dirty means not letting the press pull of their usual stunts, and Cheney is extremely good at that. He calls them on it and has all the facts, and if there's one thing the press hates, it's facts.

In fact, liberals in general hate facts.

And you can dream on - Bush is not going to be anybody's punching bag.

As I said, Cheney must really scare you liberals, and so must Bush. Punching bag indeed. For a horsefaced limp noodle gigolo liar like Kerry?

I have to disagree with most of you though. Cheney is not the perfect candidate either.

Cheney is the only true conservative in the upper echelons of the Bush administration. Get rid of him and Bush might as well be a democrat in terms of domestic policy.
