The first rule of politics is to tear down your opponent. That might not be fair, but, regrettably, it is just a fact of campaigning in modern democracies. When your opponent is a candidate, you conduct "opposition research" to dig up dirt. But with an initiative, it is more difficult to make it personal.

In that meeting, the Democrats -- led by Jackie Goldberg -- were caught conspiring to delay the budget in order to blame Republicans for hurting Californians in an attempt to get voters to support lowering the vote limit to 55%. When an aide ran into the meeting room and told them that the meeting was being broadcast, Goldberg blurted "Oh s---! Oh s---!"
This was replayed all over the news for a few days, and the legislature passed the budget the next day.
This needs to be the central theme for opposing Prop 56 -- that this is all part of the Democrats secret plan.
