"Let's go back to thinking that doing nothing will help."

Like the proposal will do anything to help? How will it? What will happen if they don't come forward? What will happen if they don't leave after the 5 years (or whatever the time period is)? How many guest workers will be allowed into the country? If that number is reached, what will be done to keep any illegals from entering after that? What is stop illegals from coming in anyway?

The answer is to enforce the current laws (isn't that what we say when cries for new gun laws are raised), lean on agencies that don't turn over illegals that they encounter (threaten ending federal grants and loans to them), hire more border agents and increase patrols (maybe integrate DEA with the patrols), etc. That will help with national security.

Imagine yourself in a big room with all your family and friends. Slam! A bomb goes off. You look around to see lots of people dead and wounded. Then you see a bunch of people you don't know. You can do one of two things. First you can round them up and throw them out. Or as an alternative you can make them fill out a form. After all, they just made everyone breakfast and it was a whole lot cheaper than your spouse charges.
