A paintball gun's gas canister hits and kills a Cameron Park mom in a freak accident.

Mark Contois was standing by his wife at their 10-year-old son's birthday party Monday when the freak paintball accident happened. Within seconds, Colette Contois, 37, was dead. Authorities said she was killed instantly when a carbon dioxide canister inexplicably shot out from a paintball gun that a teen was taking apart.

If it saves JUST ONE LIFE

Sad, tragic, freak accident. Prayers for the family. Prayers for the kids who witnessed this and especially the boy who was dismantling the gun.

Sometimes, $#!+ happens.

Any time you're working with high pressure gas, or liquid cryogens, $#!+ is just waiting to happen.

Let's be careful out there, folks.

We heard about this last night.
My son's basketball coach is her uncle.
What a tragedy but like I told my son, when the good Lord takes me, I hope he also takes me quickly.

A sad, freak accident that will increase the groundswell of supporters who wish to regulate paintball.

This is very sad indeed.

I play paintball, and helped my best friend throw a party for his 13 year old son and 20 of his friends at a local field a couple of weeks ago.

We very much stressed safety rules be followed with the punishment for breaking them being expulsion from the activities.

Paintball markers use CO2 or compressed air at very high pressures, and as this story proves, can be deadly.

Prayers for the family.

During a press conference held prior to the cannister being taken to the Jerret Criminal Retention Center to be kept in custody before arraignment, the canister was asked what it wanted to be when it grew up.

"An SUV," it replied.
