If you're interested in exactly how Flynt dumped this "story" on CNN in 2000, you can find some information by Googling the following search terms: bush abortion flynt novak cnn.

When I did that, I found a link to American Politics Journal and a column in which the author chastises CNN for "redacting" the relevant portions of the interview from the internet transcript. The author also provides what he claims is the actual exchange between Novak and Flynt.

That exchange suggests that both Novak and co-host Bill Press were taken by surprise. Further, the redaction of the exchange from the CNN transcript suggests that CNN did not feel comfortable associating itself with Flynt's claim.

I have no problem with The Media wanting to do a thorough vetting of the Kerry story before they printed it, and therefore 'held' the story for weeks.

What I DO have a problem with is that they would immediately go 'to print' with a analogously scandalous story about George Bush. Considering the source, if I were a reporter or editor, I would REALLY want to verify this story.

Maybe THIS is why the media turn me off and I no longer trust them.

The fact is that Larry Flynt isn't doing this just for himself, he's doing this as a service to John Kerry to help him out. Kerry would be wise to shut him up, but since Flynt is fairly representative of the Democrat mainstream, they probably don't see that there's a problem with him as the messenger.
