Mel Gibson's Dad Still Denies Holocaust

NEW YORK — Days before the release of Mel Gibson's film about the death of Jesus, which some critics say could fuel anti-Semitism, his father has told an interviewer that the Holocaust was mostly "fiction."

Steve Feuerstein — host of "Speak Your Piece!" — said he interviewed Hutton Gibson for a segment of his show to be broadcast Monday by the small Talkline Communications Network.

According to a transcript released by the network, Hutton Gibson said, "It's all — maybe not all fiction — but most of it is," when asked about his views on the Holocaust.

He added: "They claimed that there were 6.2 million (Jews) in Poland before the war and after the war there were 200,000, therefore he (Hitler) must have killed 6 million of them. They simply got up and left. They were all over the Bronx and Brooklyn and Sydney and Los Angeles."

The interview comes at a sensitive time for Mel Gibson, whose epic "The Passion of the Christ" is due to open Wednesday.

Some Jewish leaders say the movie could fuel anti-Semitism for its portrayal of Jews' role in the crucifixion, while conservative Christians have praised it as a moving depiction of Christ's death.

Gibson, who produced, directed and co-wrote the film, has said repeatedly that he is not anti-Semitic and that the project was a deeply personal expression of his own faith.

Hutton Gibson has an unpublished phone number at his home outside Houston and could not be reached for comment. Alan Nierob, a spokesman for Mel Gibson, declined to comment on the interview.

Hutton Gibson follows a tiny wing of traditionalist Catholicism that views the modernizing reforms of the Second Vatican Council as a conspiracy between Jews and Masons to take over the church.

The elder Gibson has stirred controversy in previous interviews with remarks on the Holocaust and Judaism, but had kept quiet in the months leading up to the release of "The Passion."

In this latest interview, Gibson said Jews want to take over the world. He did not know why Jews would want to achieve that, but said "it's all about control. They're after one world religion and one world government."

Asked in media interviews whether he shares his father's views, Mel Gibson has said that he loves his father and will not speak against him.

Zev Brenner, owner of Talkline, which he calls a Jewish network, has been calling for a boycott of all of Mel Gibson's movies.

I think the media should all run a series of articles and newscast commentaries on the unsavory beliefs of the parents of celebrities. Streisand, Sheen, Penn, etal. Oh, wait. They only do this sort of thing to conservative Christian believers. Never mind.

I don't give a sh*t what Daddy Gibson says. He's not his son, and sometimes apples fall far from trees.

Till the day he died, my father, a World War II vet, said "colored people." No matter how many times I corrected him. *Shiver*

If he didn't mean anything derrogatory by it, I see nothing wrong with that. He probably grew up in a time when that was the accepted way of referring to blacks.

We are so immersed by politial correctness that no matter what we say there is some group waiting to be offended by it.

Very true. I just hated to hear him say it because, even though I knew he worked with black men he loved, I knew how it would "sound" to those very people "waiting" for something to judge somebody by.

Imagine so much crap about nothing more than putting parts of the New Testament on film. If Jesus weren't in heaven, He'd be rolling over in His grave.

If Gibson's dad does deny the holocaust, who in their right mind would want to publicize it? The mind of the average reporter isn't worth an open can of rotten dried tuna.

I don't understand what this has to do with MEL Gibson.

From what I understand, these are two different people.

Man I can top that. My aunt referred to black people as you know whats... She commented to my dad one time that she couldn't understand why they got so upset at being called that--she said, "Afterall, that's what they are!?!" She was born in the 20's in North Carolina so there wasn't any changing her ways--she was steeped in it from birth on. I don't know what made senior Gibson the way he is. I wish he had the sense, though, to keep his nastiness in his skull or at least between his own four walls.

The best thing we could do is call each other Americans and drop the grouping and tagging. The problem is too many people want to tag themselves as victims when they are not.

and sometimes apples fall far from trees.

Daddy is 85 years old. Lucidity may not be his strong suit at this point in his life.

IMO, the media just baits Hutton Gibson to get a reaction, whether for news, or to harass Mel and the movie.

Don't like it? Don't see it.

Or go see it and read the Books of the Bible that it was culled from. Or read them first and then go see it.

IAC, its shameful for the media to prey upon the elder Gibson in order to attack the movie.

I hope your "don't like it, don't see it" wasn't directed at me. I am a huge supporter of the movie and will be in the audience next Wednesday night.

It is pretty transparent on what is going on here.

Hutton was an easy target to get the desired response and use it against Mel Gibson and the film.

When I saw the Diane Sawyer interview and how Mel reacted to the questions towards his dad, I tought, the press will be going after his Dad to force Gibson's hand.

How is that for conspiracies.
