Keep the Aspidistra Flying is one of the most overlooked books of recent times, IMHO. Even at his most pedestrian, Orwell was very creative.

I just finished reading "Burmese Days" and "Coming Up For Air". Orwell's reputation is somewhat of a victim of extreme success of "Animal Farm" and "1984" -- his other works of fiction and essays are often overlooked.
He was a fascinating, multidimensional figure--unlike most 20th century authors, very difficult to categorize.
