I'm not a parent so I'm not going to say how it should have been done. I don't thing governmentt should step in here, although I disagree with the action that was taken.

I do know how I was like at 15-16(a major league jackass that ALWAYS had to one-up). If my dad all of a sudden changed his ways and tried that to me, I would have likely snapped and gone after him to 'save face' and 'one up'.

I don't see any effectiveness here outside of PO'ing someone. Taking away the phone, car, massive groundings, forced extra work. That would be more effective. An ass-chewing alone in front of the class would have delivered the same message, and same humiliation.

All I see here is likely more rebellion.
