"They never told me," she said in trying to explain her removal. "I'm sure they're working on a reason."

LOL - probably all too true.

Carter, who volunteered 40 hours a week at the Alamo, said she was stunned by the decision.

No good deed goes unpunished.

Maybe more people in other states would be excited about the Alamo and San Jacinto if they were aware that their states also originally were part of the soveriegn Republic of Texas:

Then again I don't know that many other states other than Louisiana commemorated the 200th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase.

$5.2 MM budget? No tax dollars? First, what could cost that much and second, where DO they get that kind of money?

First Texan: "Hey, kid. What's your name?"
Pee-wee: "I ... can't remember."
Second Texan: "Where ya from?"
Pee-wee: "I can't remember."
First Texan: "Can't ya remember anything?"
Pee-wee: "I remember ... the Alamo."
Crowd of Texans: "Yaaa-hooooo!!"

"They never told me," she said in trying to explain her removal.

Probably makes her feel like DRT.

"Running the first fund-raising gala last fall, which cleared more than $100,000 for the Alamo Fund.

Maybe this a clue as to why Carter got sacked. Our very small private school (<220 students) cleared over $100,000 in our fund-raising auction last year. I suspect they want someone who can follow through on a fund-raising plan that *should* net well over that amount.
