You know, if Mel located a production company in the heartland, and issued stock, I bet he would have millions of backers and a ready made audience.

Besides films based on religion, he could make some movies based on the conflicts in Iran and Afghanistan, the heroism of September 11, the stories of everyday heroes in our country, historical dramas of great people, etc.

There is such a need for this. I think he could change the course of the entire industry.

I derive great pleasure of thinking of the media people having to trek to Indianapolis or Columbus. HA!

LOL. Maybe Gibson will expand his production company into "Icon Studios."

BTW, one of my all-time favorite films was an Icon production, "Immortal Beloved," a suspense/biography/romance/musical about Beethoven. It was glorious, and completely over-looked by Hollywood.

The problem with movie production in the heartland is that half the year it's too cold to shoot, or there's a tornado, or the architecture just looks like Ohio. Here is SoCal you can shoot summer beach scenes in December one day, then head to Big Bear the next to film winter snow. There's locations that look like Korea, or Japan, or New England, or just about anywhere.

Want to film a movie about the Hindenburg? Use the blimp hangers in Tustin to fill in for Lakehurst. How about the Titanic? Use the Queen Mary in Long Beach. Need a town in the heartland? Use the traffic circle in Orange.

There's a reason the movie business relocated from New Jersey a long time ago.
