A guy who can make and pay for his own successful films isn't dependent on other for his career. The Passion would not be in the theaters today if he depended on others in the business.
You're right, he isn't. But we, the viewing public, are dependent on him, and others like him (if there are any). He may be the one person who can turn around the entertainment industry. And don't think the Hollywood elite aren't scared silly. That's why the liberal press has their undies in such a bunch right now. They can't handle someone with integrity messing with their agenda.
I haven't yet seen the movie, trying to get logistics together where several family members can go together. However, I am so looking forward to it. This will be the first film I've seen in a theater in years.
