Noam Chomsky does not believe in truisms, and does not believe in one set of circumstances applied to a single set system of rules. Chomsky is a non-linear, non-aristotalean professors of Linguistics (and General Sematics), which translates into his refusal to accept logic, reason, and absolutes. His point, if we apply this article to his theories, is a non entity existing inside his WIGO. His point is useless and should be ignored based on his own teachings.

Ever call a professor on his own BS? Pisses them off to no end. Fun to watch if you can stomach it.

Noones's mentioned the fact that chomsky isn't a commie. He's an anarchist, so no government policy would ever appeal to him. To call him a socialist/commie or leftie gives him some credibility - after all, left-wing societies do actually exist and do actually function. But anarchism? I can't believe he's taken seriously. Standing ovation by socialists for someone advocating the complete overthrow of all systems of state control?

I realize that's what he typically claims, but it's bullshit IMHO. There are plenty of reds who pose as anarchists. Real anarchists at least occasionaly manage to work up some genuine disgust for totalitarian left regimes, but Chomsky's very occasional "denunciations" thereof are palpably pro-forma. Chomsky's red, alright, although his affiliations are obscure, and have involved small ultra-splinter groups rather than any of the major socialist parties.

Actually I did, once: Econ 201, first semester, Sophomore year. The econ professor, who I also had for econ 101, was young, good looking, popular and a known leftist. He was speaking on how we are ripped off in little ways, virtually daily, by 'big business.' As an example he said that when we buy fruit or vegetables at the market, we put the goods into small paper bags (yes, it was a long time ago). We then weigh the fruit and then pay for the weight of the fruit and the bag!

I thought about that for a half a second, then asked: "But how much can one paper bag weigh?"

'Ah, you miss the point Mr. 'Michael.sf'. You must not think of one bag, but of the hundreds of bags that they go through each day."

"But, they weigh the bags one at a time" I responded.

He mumbled something about, the point being it all adds up and this is but one example. I lost all respect for him after that stupid comment. I did get an A in that class, but he rarely called upon me during discussions after that day.
