February 26, 2004 -- THE Democratic dream candidate for vice president on a John Kerry ticket is a Republican - Vietnam War superhero John McCain. The Republican fantasy for Kerry's veep is New York's own Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. But it looks like zero chance. Few pols have more credibility than McCain - no wonder Kerry never misses a chance to cite him. Kerry's four months in Vietnam combat are central to his campaign bio. Imagine if he could add McCain's 51/2 years as a hero POW in the Hanoi Hilton.

I would really like to hear your thoughts on who the VP is going to be for Kerry. I still believe its Hillary. Theres no risk for her and only upside. Richardson is choice 2. Anybody out west thats a Governor? Whos in the Pacific Northwest? Thats liberal wacko territory.

Why don't they put Zel Miller on the VP slot ?

Oh, that's right, he's a democrat who is endorsing Bush for president.

As for Hilly being the VP...from what I've read, and NOT in the mainstream media, Bill is burning the phone lines trying to get her considered for the post. I'm not sure it's going to work since that administration is like the kiss of death. Algore and the Klintooons campaign for a candidate and most times they lose. Personally, I think that because of the 2000 election Florida is key and I think Kerry will pick someone from there. Florida seems to be a pretty strong GOP state and Kerry will have to try and combat that. Just my thoughts.

MAX CLELAND.

Cleland would be a high-risk, high-reward kind of pick. He's not going to help Kerry geographically. But he would certainly help to further innoculate Kerry on matters of patriotism/national security (or at least that would be the perception). But on the downside, are people prepared to have an individual with only one limb just a heartbeat away from the presidency? I mean, if Cheney's health is supposedly a liability, people might have second thoughts about Cleland, too.

I forgot about him too! He makes a good sympathy figure...but I'm not so sure he would be much help in the ticket. He seems to cry a lot!

We can pretty much presume it will be someone from a battleground state. Jean Carnahan comes to mind. How old is John Glenn from Ohio? Probably too old. Rockefeller from WVA. No point in wasting a pick by going from somewhere either safe or out of reach. Missouri's current governor, perhaps. A latino from Arizona? (That might anger the black vote)

The day John McCain became a Democrat, he would lose all his influence over the left-wing press. He is attractive to them and can immediately get access to the media because he represents a "conservative" Republican "war hero" who somehow always seems to come out in support of things the press loves.

Six months after becoming a Democrat, you'd hear as much about McCain as you hear about Jim Jeffords. What ever became of Jumping Jim, by the way? Where are his headlines?

Kerry-McCain would certainly be a fascinating ticket. Two Vietnam War heroes who both took advantage of their positions to sell out the POW/MIAs, and traded the lives of their comrades for a mess of pottage. Two, count 'em, two. What a ticket.

look past 2004, Kerry doesn't have a chance this will be the cleanest, least fraudulent election they have ever run.
Look at 2008 with Hillary Clinton/Harold Ford Jr.. you read it hear first

You are still under the impression that Kerry will be the nominee come election day. Think Hillary/Clark. Because there really is no potential VP candidate that can help Kerry. Unless you go Kerry/Clark.

"Do you think the Democrats would want a pro-life, free-trading fiscal conservative? They'd be smoking something pretty strong, stronger than they usually do," McCain (R-Ariz.) told The Post.

Actually, this is precisely the kind of influence the Democrats need to avoid the complete dissolution of their party. But, of course, trying to advance those kind of policies to a Democrat audience is taking one's life in one's hands.
