MEL GIBSON'S "The Passion of the Christ" is a powerful example of devotional art
It also is a well-produced
throwback to the medieval passion plays that helped to stoke violent anti-Semitism in Europe. It cannot be defended as simply faithful to the Gospels and their account of the role of the Jewish people in Jesus's crucifixion. Mr. Gibson has embellished the New Testament's account in numerous ways
.
Mr. Gibson has the right to express whatever religious vision he wants
. The controversy
gave Mr. Gibson ample chance to treat this aspect of his story with sensitivity. He made a different choice.

It's astonishing; before this movie was made I had no idea how many Biblical and Religious scholars are also part-time movie critics.Apparently, a BA in Theology is a pre-requisite for getting a job in the Arts & Entertainment section of the local Toilet-Paper-Emergency-Back-Up.

Yeah, I guess this guy was around when the New Testament was being written. These liberal scum seriously need to STFU!

All the folks who defended "Piss Christ" (crucifix in jar of urine), are now complaining about the insensitivity of "The Passion." What a bunch of frauds.

As I read all these rants I keep thinking about the scene in the Gospels, I paraphrase here, where Jesus cast demons out and into pigs who ran squealing into the lake. It makes you wonder, can a person be possessed, not in that Exorcist, head-spinning, goo-spewing kind of way, but still, occupied by some demon who cringes and screeches when present before Truth? And so isn't the appropriate response to such a person, "Go jump in the lake?"

Funny. I'll bet those who are bitching about Mels Movie have no idea what a Bible is, let alone ever opened one.
Liberals read the Bible the same way they read the Constitution. With Satan's eyeballs.

So now the Christians are to blame for the Holocaust. It's interesting that the liberals hate Gibson so much they're willing to let Hitler off the hook. Liberals are nothing if not flexible in their thinking, all the while supporting a Palestinian led Holocaust!

Mainline Hollywood will quickly counter Mel with an approved version of the Christ's Passion. The plot will center around a Hitlerian group of blond haired, blue eyed, Paleo Nazi's who murder Christ, and then blame it on the Jews.

LOL. Seriously though, there are other forms of demonic harassment, other than full-blown possession. I am currently reading a book written by a long-time exorcist. The more obvious ones are temptation, since everyone (including Jesus Himself) experiences that, and possession. The others though include demonic oppression and obsession, where the person being harassed gets random evil, disturbing, or worrisome thoughts in to their head constantly.

I heard an interview with Tarantino recently where he said that if a movie didn't contain sufficient blood, it wasn't believable. I wonder what he thinks of this one.

I am currently reading a book written by a long-time exorcist. That's got to be scary reading. Not sure I could handle it. And subtle "possession" is almost more worrisome than something obvious. Makes you wonder...
