Hollywood Bosses Vow to Destroy Gibson
Newsmax ^ | 2/26/04

I won't hire him. I won't support anything he's part of."

So says a chairman of major Hollywood studio quoted today by the New York Times in its latest attack on Mel Gibson and "The Passion of the Christ."

Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen, who along with Steven Spielberg are the big cheeses at the powerful DreamWorks, and who just happen to be Democrat activists, are angry about the movie, according to the Times. And the chairmen of two other big studios say they won't work with Gibson.

"Amid the daily dealings of Hollywood, the film and the star have been fodder for unfavorable gossip. Dustin Hoffman has talked to friends about what he called Mr. Gibson's 'strangeness' during the ABC interview. The producer Mike Medavoy said Mr. Gibson's religious zealotry made him feel uncomfortable," the Times fretted.

'Antichrist' Welcome

Others, however, think Tinseltown's notorious avarice will rule in the end.

"If the movie works, I don't think it will hurt him. People here will work with the Antichrist if he'll put butts in seats," said John Lesher, an agent with Endeavor.

And the wallet-packing butts are there. The $30 million movie made up to $20 million or more on its debut Wednesday, Box Office Mojo estimated today.

The Associated Press today estimated Wednesday's take at more than $20 million, with a total so far of up to $26 million including previews Monday and Tuesday.

Katzenberg, Geffen and Speilberg have long been on the wrong side in my view.

Geffen is a hopeless little cakeboy.

Speilberg showed some redemption with SPR but can't help himself.

Katzenberg does what Steve does.

Medavoy....I'm a bit suprised....I have heard reasonable things from him in the past.

They are all operating from one motivation: fear.

I doubt the folks in question in this article believe in the concept of anti-Christ.

And what should happen if they should find they have to ask Gibson for a job? :-)

"Didn't you mean The Ivory Tower?"

Depends on whether they serve a good Cobb salad there.

The Antichrist is specifically who they would back.

"Check out a copy of Hollywood Interrupted--one of the authors is a freeper."

I ordered a copy this morning after I heard the Fox & Friends bunch discussing it! They were fighting over who got the available copy there next! One mentioned the quote made by Jennifer Anniston about Bush on 9/11 (or 9/12; can't remember exactly). Said the quote couldn't be repeated on TV; too nasty! And said she should be glad it hadn't been quoted in any of the major papers as it would have ruined her career! My, my!!

Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen

They are both homosexuals who will not acknowledge their own sin and vile lifestyles, and yet they want to throw stones at Gibson?

[It's long, long past time that one of Hollywood's own pushed back against the virulent Leftism endemic to the entertainment industry.]

Would it not be a supreme irony if Gibson would start a full movie production house in competition with the leftest houses now in the drivers seat.

I suspect that Gibson has the resources and will soon have a lot more to do it well. I also expect a lot of us that seldom go to the movie would change our ways.

Thanks for the good idea. I, too, do not want to actually see the film.

You should see it. It's great. The violence you've heard about really isn't THAT bad. Go see it ASAP. It's 2 hours well worth spent. :)

Relax folks.

Mel Gibson is an A-list Hollywood superstar. Mel knows Hollywood. He knows what will work, and what won't.

He's an Academy award winning director, and if you check IMDB, he has a string of hit movies going back 20 years. He's right up there with Tom Cruise and Tom Hanks. His career is FAR from over.

Mel Gibson is basically untouchable in Hollywood. Generally speaking, any movie with him in front of or behind the camera is golden as far as box office receipts are concerned.

Money talks in Hollywood. Im quite certain Mel knew at the beginning that this movie would make $100+ million. Mel didn't give us yet another half-ass low-budget cheesy Christian themed movie. He knew from the beginning that he would have to produce a movie of superior quality or else he would be seen as yet another "Christian wacko." If (when) The Passion makes $100+ million at the box office, Mel will be in good shape.

The Hollywood types will produce whatever movie will make them the most money whether they like it or not. Bottom line.

Just my amateur opinion, of course. :)

Jews continue to have a veil over their eyes preventing them from seeing their Messiah.

2 Corinthians 3:12-17

" 12Since this new covenant gives us such confidence, we can be very bold. 13We are not like Moses, who put a veil over his face so the people of Israel would not see the glory fading away. 14But the people's minds were hardened, and even to this day whenever the old covenant is being read, a veil covers their minds so they cannot understand the truth. And this veil can be removed only by believing in Christ. 15Yes, even today when they read Moses' writings, their hearts are covered with that veil, and they do not understand.
16But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, then the veil is taken away. 17Now, the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, he gives freedom. 18And all of us have had that veil removed so that we can be mirrors that brightly reflect[2] the glory of the Lord. And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him and reflect his glory even more."

Maybe this is the real motive behind Jewish criticisms and the Passion movie. Maybe Jewish leaders are afraid that some fellow Jews may decide to accept Jesus as their long awaited Messiah.

That's not going to happen and I don't think that's what they're really afraid of. They're furious at Gibson because his movie has made Christians stand up and defend their faith (they were supposed to cave-in and apologize the minute Abe Foxman called Gibson an anti-Semite). The movie might even help create more Christians by drawing people who had fallen away or who had never been Christians in the first place.

By the way, I wouldn't be surprised if some big Hollwood hot shots are also furious with Foxman for turning what might have been just a little art house film into a major cultural event.

They're afraid....very afraid. Thus they attack the messenger, for these unbelievers recognize that everyone is now talking about and saying the name of ....gasp...Jesus, the Christ.
