Santa Clara County officials are trying to unravel the mystery surrounding a woman's skull that was found Thursday afternoon in the Los Gatos mountains.

A hiker looking for mushrooms near the intersection of Black and Beardsley roads spotted the skull in the bushes on a steep hillside around 3:30 p.m. and called police, said Deputy Terrance Helm, spokesman for the Santa Clara County sheriff.

Ther article says it is not Jeanine Harms, but does not say how that was deterimined, since it is an adult female who died two or three years ago.

Authorities quickly ruled out the possibility the remains belonged to Jeanine Sanchez Harms of Los Gatos, who was 42 when she disappeared in July 2001 after a night out with friends in Campbell, Helm said.

Because the bones were in good condition, authorities believe the woman died about two or three years ago, Helm said.

Doing the math here, July 2001 would be two and a half to three years ago.

That's what I thought. Plus, she's an adult female. I don't know how they ruled her out so quickly when they don't know much:

An anthropologist has been called in hope of determining the woman's height, weight, race and other distinguishing characteristics.

does not say how that was deterimined,

Perhaps the bones were grossly larger or smaller than the size of the missing person.

Perhaps, but they don't seem to know the height yet. She was 5'5, so that's not to an extreme.

Dental work may have been different enough to eliminate her at a glance.

At any given time, there are over 50 serial killers at "work" in the United States alone. At least that's what I learned in school when I was working on my degree in Criminal Justice. Likely, this is the work of one of these sickos. Too bad she wasn't armed and ready to use it. I always say: "If OJ's victim had been through my firearms course, she'd be a rich widow, today."
