The movie wasn't made to please everyone. As a Jew, I can't relate to its theology but I can understand it has meaning for Christians. And besides freedom of expression runs in both directions. What's sauce for the liberal goose ought to equally be sauce for the conservative gander as well.

Absolutely right. When we were in line today, everyone was a complete stranger, yet we started chatting like old friends. Guess that's because we were all 'wacky right-wing Christian fanatics'.

>>... But I do not for a moment believe that is what really motivates their hatred of this film....<<

No, it is the demons that own thier souls that are screaming and snarling. They cannot stand the Light.

An amazing article, considering it was published in Time magazine.

I want to wish the author my best in his new career endeavors.

---Another panelist, Newsweek’s Jon Meacham, added the observation that “The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has issued pastoral guidelines about how believers should dramatize the Passion ... almost every one of which Gibson violates. ---

I wonder what Meacham's views are on adherance to the Catholic churche's views on abortion, contraception and pre-marital sex?

The USCCB has begun to disgust me. They criticized this movie, when they should have celebrated it (they have since retracted their criticism).

Why is it that Catholic bishops seem to be morally blind? They seem to be confused, weak, paralyzed by contradiction. Are the staffs of the nation's dioceses so contaminated by liberalism, modernism, and dare I say heresy, that bishops fear to speak boldly and clearly about moral matters?

I am sure the Lord has a special place for weak-gutted bishops.

...also, the author of this piece should check his facts more carefully.

Hutton is the name of Gibson's father....not Hunter.

My niece and her husband saw the movie today. They have never been regular church goers by any means. My sister just called to let me know that they are both going to church tomorrow, and plan to get baptized. This is the effect this movie had on them.

Also, my niece said before the movie started, there were 3 young guys sitting there laughing and cutting up. She thought "oh no, I hope this does not go on during the movie". After the movie started, they were all silent, and later she glanced over and saw tears streaming down one of they boys' face.

I am seeing the film with some family members Monday evening. I am so looking forward to this. Anyway, just wanted to share the impact that this film had on my niece and her husband.

"Yeah, we saw it yesterday, at a matinee, which was sold out. Everyone in the audience was carrying whips, and wearing black leather and crucifixes."

Darn, now I'm going to need to update my wardrobe before I go see it.

Not just that .. but possibly the author saw the movie and had all his liberal ideas SHATTERED!

I do believe that is a distinct possibility.

"what has gotten liberals flummoxed is the fact millions of people wanted to see a movie like this despite all the bad press about it. They have no idea there are millions of people in America who take the Bible and religion that seriously."

It also provides definitive evidence that millions of people in America don't take liberals and their opinions seriously.

That's really gotta hurt...

the left thinks all Christians are rednecks driving pickup trucks with gunracks in the rear window, drink whiskey and screw our cousins all week and shout and sing and eat b-b-q on Sunday.

"I'll state the obvious -- they don't hate the "anti-semitism," they hate Jesus. In fact, all of the hypocrites who complain about this films "anti-semitism" are pretty much the same people who wish that Israel would roll over and die"

Good point there. As a Jew, I resent the likes of Frank Rich purporting to speak for me, while out of the other side of their pen bemoaning Israel's right to exist.
