Exactly. The same thing happens in health care. Patient who pay cash pay ironically MORE than everyone else because the masses of those who get excessively subsidized care jack up the price for everyone else, and those who get inadequately subsidized care with a mandate to treat them anyway at that price cause the cost to be shifted to other sick people who do pay full price.

That's also the problem with "vouchers" for education. I suppose if everyone gets them it will not be an issue, but if they ever become a reality you can bet that they will be "means tested" and that those who are "too rich" because they save their money instead of spending it on junk will end up paying inflated prices made possible by the vouchers.

Businesses can deduct basically every expense in the world including cars that are well beyond what is needed for the business, trips, educational training expenses that involve airline flights and hotels, etc. etc. But heaven forbid that an individual choose to educate himself or herself as part of their own business plan for themselves--that's NOT deductible. And why? Because those who don't pay taxes don't get anything out of deductions so it would be considered a "tax break for the rich" if educational expenses could be deducted. So government is happy to blatently discriminate against "the rich" and refuses to permit even sensible breaks for people making their own way.

Socialism and Fascism stink in every way.

I had loans too and paid them back. They steal my money so I play their game sometimes to try to get some back while we are fighting the battle against fascism. But the government should neither make nor guarantee the loans. What happens when people default? We the People bail them out. It's no different than the "Mexican Bailout." The banks want to make money by making inadvisable loans, hoping for a windfall, but when their "risk taking" proves wrong, they want bailed out by the government instead of taking their own lumps. Corporate welfare.

It's not socialism for us to take loans, but it is socialism for the government to make and guarantee them and them tax the people to cover the losses. And it jacks up the price of education by interfering in the free market and makes it inevitable that even more people will have to take loans to get an education.

It's bad for those who will work their way through college --- tuition goes up so high they may lose out the chance to go at all but meanwhile those who won't work for what they want get a free ride. We'll cut out the most ambitious, highest potential students ---- just making everyone who wants college pay their own way would go a lot farther --- the same lower rates for all ---- and everyone could afford it. With college, there should be no excuse for the so-called minorities not to go --- they could work their way like others do --- if the only reason they'll go is because it's another government handout, then it's not worth getting them there.

Yes ---- if this was loans, then the students working their way through or their parents who worked and saved up for them to go would be paid back. This is just robbing from those who will work for something to give to those who will not.

Tech won't be seeing any alumni donations from me.

Me neither. Just think, when I went to Tech the tuition was $4 per semester hour. Methinks Tech is paying too much money to too many people who have nothing to do with educating kids. No alumni donations from me.

I was paying $22/hour my last semester. These current numbers are getting ludicrous. Yikes.
