February ended on a positive note for Coalition forces as it was the lowest casualty month with the lowest casualty rate since the war began. Compared with January, U.S. fatalities dropped over 50% to 20. It was over 75% less fatalities than November which had 82 deaths. Overall, 549 U.S. have lost their lives, 456 if which were due to hostile fire.

Really good news. Still not perfect. Of course, zero deaths is best.
Wonder how the losses in Iraq compare to the number of violent deaths in the U.S. per day. Probably not an apple-apples comparison but a way to show that the situation in Iraq isn't that bad.

I challenged a local reporter on the 500+ killed since Bush declared an end to major combat meme that was being repeated in every article.
I asked how someone who died from illness was killed? His response, he was killed by the illness.
I asked how many other US soldiers worldwide have been killed by illness since May 1st. He didn't know.
I asked if sleep killed SPC Kinchen in Iraq on August 09, 2003.
We finally agreed that it was a media spin tactic to reach a benchmark and spin a story.

We must be doing something right.

Still not perfect. Of course, zero deaths is best. This is indicative of how FReepers succumb to idiotic thinking beset by liberal spin.
OK, I want death suspended in Iraq. Nobody gets sick. Nobody dies of natural causes. Nobody dies of any accidents doing anything the least bit risky. Well, at least in Iraq for our miltary.
In all my time in the military we've never had zero deaths in any year, and I've never heard anyone say, "Still not perfect. Of course, zero deaths is best."
The laughter at such idiocy would have killed people in the room.

They did it to Dole, and Bush 41, almost did it in 2000, they will succeed in 2004. Their influence in enormous.
Oh bullcrap. Dole ran a loser campaign. Even as a 19 year old who wasn't into politics, I knew Dole got the nomination more as a "Thanks for your service to the GOP" and that he wasn't even really trying to win. Think of it as the ultimate gold watch employee giveaway.
And GHW Bush lost for two reasons: 1) Ross Perot, and 2) He sold us out and agreed to a tax increase. He deserved to get beaten.

However, to demand perfection will result in more than if no one demands perfection.
Some people accept the status quo. Others demand better and sometimes succeed.
"You don't always get what you want, but if you try, sometimes you get what you need."
All I am suggesting is that they try harder to prevent the deaths of our service men and women. And if that doesn't work try harder.
Also, I am a pragmatist: I realize that people die during war. And this war in Iraq is absolutely necessary.
I would demand perfection if my son or daughter were over there.

At your age I felt the same way, idealistic.
Which is why men like Bush 41 and Dole lost, and a man like Clinton won.
Get back with me in about 20 yrs.

There hasn't been a US soldier killed by hostile action since Feb.19th (10 days ago). That's one of the longest stretches I can remember. I don't like even say things like this, for fear of jinxing things, but I do think we're having a profound effect on the "resistance". I just hope we can keep up the pressure as new troops are rotated in.

It certainly appears that things are really quieting down in Iraq -- I mentioned to my wife yesterday that it's been quite awhile since we've heard of any large-scale attacks in Iraq. The left won't cover this at all, prefering to raise the S.F. mayor up as some kind of saint and disparage Mel Gibson as some kind of Hitler. Thankfully, they mostly just talk to themselves.
