[history]
The Great Divider was at it again last week, rallying his religious fundamentalist troops in their never-ending war against the principles of freedom.
George W. Bush is a man who wears his religion on his sleeve. "Look at me," his actions seem to say. "Look at what a good boy I am. I love God, I truly do, I love the flag, I love apple pie, and, lately, I've noticed I love marriage."

The author seems to feel half as passionately about the Bush administration as I felt about the Clinton administration(!)

The author seems to feel half as passionately about the Bush administration as I felt about the Clinton administration(!) I understand what you are saying but I simply do not recall reading the hatred aimed at Clinton, the Chief Rapist, as we see with Bush.

In the overall scheme of things -- and Bush's bleating to the contrary -- the issue of gay and lesbian couples acquiring marriage certificates is of little intrinsic consequence except as a new headache for insurance executives, who so far have been successful in denying family benefits to same-sex families. Insurance execs have no problem with more groupings being defined as families. All it will mean is more premiums for them.

"Nobody wants to talk about it, but the world is running out of oil. Predictions vary wildly, but some experts say we'll squeeze the last drop out of Mother Earth around 2050, perhaps sooner." Is this true?

It was the "first gay" President who signed The Defense Of Marriage Act.

Is this true?Absolutely not. There is more oil than we can calculate. Anyone saying we are running out of any resource cannot back up the claim with any proof whatsoever.

Bring it! This kind of arrogant hate speech is going to ensure Bush a landslide re-election.

It is, based on current proven reserves.

To: DemWatch
Is this guy trying to say that gay marriage is one of the real problems?
To: DemWatch
Did the writer forget about the part where GWB kidnapped Presidente Aristide?

No Barf Alert can sufficiently prepare anyone for reading this piece of garbage. The author must really hate life in order to be this negative about everything.

"The Great Divider was at it again last week, rallying his religious fundamentalist troops in their never-ending war against the principles of freedom."
The irony in this statement is tremendous. This is the kind of statement that should be made in satire of these people, not in a serious manner. The very fact that the author is oblivious to it alone re-assures me that these people aren't worth listening to.

I mildly badmouthed Newsom in a column right after he was elected, and what he's done so far as mayor has made me look dead wrong. He's looking great. He's the first genuinely liberal mayor San Francisco has had in my 24 years here. Among other things, he's appointed a woman as fire chief and has another woman, this one of Asian descent, as acting police chief, replacing a good ol' boy in the police department. This author is full of crap, but what else would you expect from SFGATE (leftist web mouthpiece for the SF Chronicle).
I've worked for the City of SF for many years (not many conservatives left). And have had the opportunity to meet and work around both of these new chiefs. Newsom did not do anything new here; the successions were logical and set to go by his predecessor, Willie Brown. SF Police Chief Heather Fong was appointed as interim chief by Willie a long time ago. She's competent, and has long had the support of the rank and file. Similarly with SF Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White. She's proven to be quite competent.
Newsom just got "lucky" in these picks. One good thing he's done is in trying to deal with the homeless problem, with his Care not Cash project. Unfortunately, he's poured a lot more cash than we would care into this project.
