A cell phone going off at such a moment. If true it would be very funny considering the loin cloth location. This is a movie. Let me repeat that, "this is a movie" It would be very hard to always remain grave at all times for the length of time taken to produce. Just bless them and smile. I sometimes wonder if Christ didn't have a sense of humor. Read about him with the woman at the well. I think she was flirting with him and he was letting her get pulled in to make a point. I think it was very humorious the way Christ handled her.

During Jim's interview on Rush's show last week, when rush asked him about the lightning strike, Jim said he looked up at the sky and said something like "Was that a bad take?"

Due to the serious nature of this film, and the stresses involved, I'm sure there was a TON of laughter on the sets.

For all these people that think Jehova doesn't have a sense of humor, these is only one thing to say:

Duck-billed platypus.

"...don't worship this film."

Another one. What is your problem?
I just didn't think it very funny, I didn't say I worship the movie. Stop putting words in my mouth,
POST NUMBER ONE: "Not funny".
That was all, jeez....

I have to admit..take 14 on the cross where he gets struck by lightning sounds funny the way it was written here...fortunately he wasn't harmed..

Lets you remember they were just making a movie.

First, evil pretends that a good thing will be or is of no consequence - unworthy of notice.

Then, evil lies about the good thing in an attempt to destroy it and lead people away from it. Evil will call good evil and evil good.

After that, evil mocks the good thing - derides it. Makes it a joke, trivial, funny.

We're all just seeing evil at work. Evil has unmasked itself very often lately. I wonder why...

It isn't but I guess doing the film not in his native language could create a lot of retakes. I loved the movie and would have understood it without the subtitles. If you know the gospels you know the dialog, it was gripping and you just leave speachless deep in thought. I don't believe the report is to mock but with the cynical media I would be skeptical of their intent.

Agreed.

There is such a thing as "good" humor, which is by nature redemptive. The is conversely "bad" humor, which trivializes the sacred, or disregards the laws of God.

These "outtakes" seem more along the lines of "good" humor, humbly acknowledging the faultiness of humanity. That is a good thing.

As I noted earlier on this thread, I spent 12 months writing my master's thesis on the topic, and I'm really drawn to conversations on this subject. My thesis is online here: http://www.ijot.com/ted

Would you think a similar treatment of "Schindlers List" funny?

Yes, I would.

"Schindler's List" also had bloopers and outtakes. Any movie that intense has to have a lot of laughing and joking off camera. It's a very human way of dealing with the stress.

Even if these are not the actual outtakes from the movie, I'm sure there were humorous moments on the set.

With all due respect, It appears from your posts as a whole that it is the irreverence that you take issue with, not the funny factor...I can see why you are getting these responses...

Can you possibly imagine trying to make that movie and NOT having a laugh or two?

From the PAX TV special, it looked as though Mel tried to do just that to relieve the unbearable tension of the scenes.

BTW, I think the 'Mote' line is hilarious.

Makes it a joke, trivial, funny.

Some "humor" does trivialize the sacred, dismissing God and His laws. That would be "bad" humor.

These outtakes, though, point to the faultiness of humanity, without denigrating the One being portrayed or His story. I honestly don't see these outtakes (if they're real) as necessarily "bad."

"Fine line between reverence and irreverence when talking about humor."

I guess it's the irreverence that contains the humor here.

'Course this is just a "movie" in the same sense that the Bible is just a "book." However, I think that God would not object to such humor.

Jim also said, on Leno, that he prepared for the role by "walking across his pool 2 or 3 times a day."

Blasphemer...;-)

I read that the cast attended mass every morning during the filming, and there were some conversions of cast and crew during the project.

These accounts seem inconsistent with the ribald humor and outlandishly whacky and zany pranks described in the article.

It doesn't sound to me like a Caddyshack sort of movie set either.

I don't mind if people find it funny. Sort of like whoopee cushions: I don't get the joke, but if it's amusing to you, by all means have at it.

That was not ALL you said.

These are NOT outtakes, they are just a lame attempt at comedy.
Would you think a similar treatment of "Schindlers List" funny?

I guess I read more into your last line than you intended. I see your comment as implying a reverence to the movie that I thought was more than it deserves. When people (in general) do this I believe are taking the material too far. Like you, I was expressing an opinion. I am sorry if I offended you; but there is a big difference about joking in the making of a movie, and joking about God.

"Roman soldier gingerly reaches into Caviezel's blood-soaked loincloth, pulls out phone and opens it, then holds the phone to Caviezel's ear."

First read was funny. But a phone in the loincloth? Investigation shows this to be Paul Ford's own creation. Just another attack. Just another turn of the other cheek.

Let them attack, let the Spirit continue to move.
