The Rev. Al Sharpton called on black religious leaders Saturday to support same-sex marriage, even if that means having to put aside their own beliefs.
To do otherwise, he told supporters of his presidential candidacy at the Emanuel AME Church in Harlem, would renew threats to civil rights and play right into the hand of the president.
"George Bush would like to distract this country from the issues of jobs, health care, education and the fact that 500 soldiers lost their lives for a war that was unnecessary," Sharpton told members of his National Action Network. "He'd rather have you argue about people's personal lives than his public policy."
Sharpton said he fears black churches will become a battleground in the fight over same-sex marriage, especially since Bush announced his support for a constitutional ban on gay marriage. Unlike Democratic front-runner Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, Sharpton contends that it is not enough to favor civil unions.
"The notion of civil unions as opposed to marriage is creating a false debate that will open the door to redefining America's values," he said.
Back home in New York after his disappointing showing in Tuesday's primaries, Sharpton said he and his delegates will be a voice at the convention regardless of who wins the nomination.
Sharpton drew parallels between the gay-rights movement and the civil-rights movement, with one exception: "You can hide being gay, but you cannot hide being black."

"'The notion of civil unions as opposed to marriage is creating a false debate that will open the door to redefining America's values,' he said."There's some real intelligence in this statement, you just have to mull over the entire statement.

Yea. Let's drop the term "Reverend" altogether for the likes of Al Sharpton.

Gay Marriage is a big charade. If they wish to play such games, feel free to do so in their own bedroom, but don't expect everyone else to join into your little fairytale.
To: spald
Everyone gets lucky once in a while, Crazy Al included.

"Crazy Al" is married to Lefty NBC pundit masquerading as a journalist Andrea Mitchell - what we have here is false representation.
Well, could be more than one Crazy guy named Al, I guess, now that I've thought of AlGore.
Never mind.
To: mhking
This is absolutely insane.
A "preacher" turns his back on his God just to pander to dangerously regressive animals infiltrating our schools? For politics? For a vote?
How could a Leftist trust such a person?

Joshua 24:15 - And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Albert Sharpton has shown that he has no audience, even with the Dimocrats, as per this "show me the money" presidential nomination make believe run.
No Sharpton needs to find another scam, and I'm sure he will.

The Rev. Al Sharpton called on black religious leaders Saturday to support same-sex marriage, even if that means having to put aside their own beliefs. That one's a hoot! A "religious leader" who gives up the principles of his faith to support the Dem party is a Dem party flak. I wonder how many will accept the invitation?
