Active duty military are not supposed to be involved in political action.

Actually, I believe members of the the Coast Guard are technically not classified as "active duty military," unless specifically designated as such.

Normally, they're part of the Department of Transportation.

Slight correction: the Coast Guard was transferred to the Dept. of Homeland Security on 1 March, 2003.
