What is the purpose of the gallbladder if it isn't a critical function of the body?

The gall stores and releases gall made by the liver, which helps in the digestion of fats.

Storage of bile. Without it, the liver dumps bile right into the digestive track. This is probably why some of us have lingering digestion issues because of the bile dump straight into our systems. It is not fun to run to the bathroom right after breakfast, but from what I understand it is not life threatening either. Instead of storing bile, I dump it.
