Saddam Spy Suspect Worked for House and Senate Democrats

Talk about a triathlon: The Maryland woman charged today with spying for Saddam Hussein's dictatorship has also worked for congressional Democrats and the media establishment.

Susan Lindauer, scheduled to appear in court later today in Baltimore, launched her career as a political publicist. She worked for Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., when he was a U.S. congressman, and in 1996 shifted to one-term former Sen. Carol Moseley Braun of Illinois, best known lately for her doomed-from-the-start presidential campaign.

She also was employed by Fortune, U.S. News & World Report and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, the Associated Press reported.

Wyden's handler Chris Fitzgerald said the office had heard of Lindauer's arrest and expected to issue a statement later today.

"She worked for us a short period of time," he said.

Braun's mouthpiece Loretta Kane insisted that the former senator did not remember Lindauer.

'Liberal Views' and 'Fantasy World'

"More than a half dozen FBI agents could be seen searching Lindauer's residence in Takoma Park, a city known for its liberal views," AP reported.

One neighbor, Joao Luiz Vieire de Castro, described Lindauer as "a regular American who walks her dog in the mornings and the afternoon."

"It's a big surprise. Who would think that it's [espionage] in your neighborhood?" said Dean Paris, 45, who sometimes greeted Lindauer on the street.

But Malvina Lacey, who lives next door to Lindauer, said, "She lives in a fantasy world."

Libyan Connection and 'Acid' in Her Car

The Washington Post reported today that, according to the indictment, Lindauer also met last year "with an undercover FBI agent who was posing as a representative of the Libyan intelligence service and was seeking to support resistance groups fighting U.S. forces in post-war Iraq. It said Lindauer discussed with the agent 'the need for plans and foreign resources to support these groups operating within Iraq.'"

While working for Rep. Wyden, she became embroiled in the debate over who carried out the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, in December 1988. Under pressure from the Bush administration, Libya's dictatorship has finally admitted its guilt.

The December 1998 issue of the online Middle East Intelligence Bulletin quoted Lindauer as claiming saying that that a former CIA agent had told her that the bombers were Syrian and that she had suffered because of her advocacy in the Lockerbie case.

"Someone put acid on the steering wheel of my car on a day I was supposed to drive to [New York City] for a meeting at the Libya House," the report quoted Lindauer as saying.

"I scrubbed my hands with a toilet brush, but my face was burned so badly that 3 weeks later friends worried I might be badly scarred. Also, my house was bugged with listening devices and cameras - little red laser lights in the shower vent. And I survived several assassination attempts."

CNN Doesn't Want You to Know

We checked out a tip sent by one reader and found that as of 1:50 p.m. EST, the story on CNN's Web site had still failed to inform readers of Lindauer's ties to Democrats and Big Media.

Fox News Channel's Web site, of course, had the updated news.

'Sadism' Hussein

MSNBC's site had the update, attributed to AP, but included this curious paragraph: "She was accused of conspiring to act as a spy for the Iraqi Intelligence Service and of engaging in prohibited financial transactions involving the government of Iraq under President Sadism Hussein."

That's odd. Our AP story called the toppled tyrant "Saddam" throughout.

Fox showed pictures of her being lead off babbling about how this was all a setup because she is a peace activist. So her defense will be "Bush did it". Anyone want to bet that the "mainstream press" will at least try and support her?

Just a few minutes of checking through Google, and a number of references to "Susan Lindauer" pop up, indicating she was involved as a go-between in the Lockerbie, Scotland, prosecution of certain Libyans for that terrorist attack, that she had worked for Pete De Fazio, then Ron Wyden, then Carole Moseley-Braun, (and maybe Zoe Lofgren?) as well as being a reporterette for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and a couple other news magazines, all with distinct left-wing bias.

Her sympathies were clear. She is obviously on the side of the Islamofascists. And perhaps not remarkably, she is closely identified with liberal Democrats.

Anyone who hasn't bought and read Ann Coulter's great book, "Treason," ought to. She absolutely proves that the DemonRat party and the Roosevelt and Truman administrations were totally penetrated by Communist traitors, the most notorious of them being Alger Hiss. The Communists so easily penetrated the DemonRat party because the DEmonRat socialist ideology was highly sympathetic to Communism.

It's no different today. The highest ranking DemonRats, including Ketchup Boy, the Hero of Chappaquidick, and Howard Dean, never really saw a terrorist or Marxist foreign tyranny they didn't love more than the U.S. That makes it easy for them to harbor the likes of this woman, just as the Truman and Roosevelt administrations harbored Alger Hiss and many other traitors.

If the Feds do a good job sweating her, she might even spill a few more names.

Fox showed pictures of her being lead off babbling about how this was all a setup because she is a peace activist.

Considering the following she is a traitor:

Lindauer also met last year "with an undercover FBI agent who was posing as a representative of the Libyan intelligence service and was seeking to support resistance groups fighting U.S. forces in post-war Iraq. It said Lindauer discussed with the agent 'the need for plans and foreign resources to support these groups operating within Iraq.'"

Peace Activist, huh? Hmmm...wonder if we can connect her to any of the groups that get Heinz Foundation donations...think I'll go out and check.

The big thread has made that connection and many more.

Additionally, it's known she met with IIS on September 19, 2001.

Just found this:

Susan Lindauer's Work Record
The woman charged with spying for the Iraqi Intelligence service spent the 1990s working on Capitol Hill.
by Katherine Mangu-Ward
03/11/2004 1:48:00 PM

ONE SUSAN LINDAUER was arrested today on charges that she acted as a spy for the Iraqi Intelligence service, and accepted $10,000 for the information she gathered. See the full story here.

Lindauer is identified as a "Takoma Park, MD woman" in news accounts, which allege that she made multiple visits from October 1999 through March 2002 to the Iraqi Mission to the United Nations in New York. She also traveled to Baghdad in February and March of 2002.

As of April 2002, a Susan Lindauer was in the employ of Democratic Rep. Zoe Lofgren of California, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Lindauer previously worked in the press offices of Democrats Rep. Peter DeFazio of Oregon (from approximately May 1993 to January 1994), Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon (starting in January 1994), and Former Sen. Carol Moseley Braun of Illinois (from January 1996 to September 1996).

Lindauer also gave a deposition in the investigation of the 1998 Lockerbie airline terror bombing.

Moseley Braun says that she "doesn't remember" Lindauer. But a spokesman for one of the congressmen confirmed that it was "extremely likely" that the woman in question was a former congressional aide and press secretary for the four Democratic congressmen.

Katherine Mangu-Ward is a reporter at The Weekly Standard.

And this as well:

How Susan Lindauer Was Caught
A new indictment outlines the government's allegations.

Susan Lindauer, the former Democratic congressional aide charged with spying for Iraq, was arrested several months after meeting with an FBI agent who posed as a Libyan intelligence agent looking to recruit support for Iraqi groups attacking U.S. forces in the aftermath of the war.

According to the indictment charging Lindauer with conspiracy to spy for Iraq, that meeting took place on June 23, 2003, in Baltimore, Maryland. The indictment charges that Lindauer and the agent "discussed the need for plans and foreign resources to support [resistance] groups operating within Iraq."

The indictment says Lindauer met with the agent again on July 17, 2003, to discuss the same topic. Then, according to prosecutors, the undercover FBI agent instructed Lindauer to leave a set of documents at a designated spot in Takoma Park, Maryland, the suburb of Washington, D.C., where Lindauer lives. The indictment says Lindauer left the requested documents on August 6, 2003, and left another set of documents on August 21, 2003.

During the period from June 2003 until February 2004, the indictment alleges, Lindauer remained in regular e-mail contact with the FBI undercover agent, whom she believed was working for Libya.

According to the indictment, Lindauer's efforts to assist the Iraqi resistance came after years of contacts with Iraqi intelligence agents. The indictment says those contacts began in October 1999, when Lindauer first met with Iraqi agents in New York.

The indictment alleges that Lindauer met with a representative of the Iraqi Intelligence Service in New York on September 19, 2001, just eight days after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

The indictment charges that not long after 9/11, Lindauer and her co-conspirators gave Iraqi intelligence agents information about Iraqi expatriates in the United States. Prosecutors say Lindauer usually met with Iraqi intelligence agents in New York and was reimbursed for her travel and meals.

The indictment says Lindauer traveled to Baghdad in February 2002 as a guest of the Iraqi Intelligence Service. Prosecutors say Lindauer met with several Iraqi agents during the trip. She also allegedly accepted about $5,000 in cash from the agents.

In all, Lindauer is charged with receiving about $10,000 from the Iraqi Intelligence Service.

In one intriguing passage, the indictment charges that on January 8, 2003, Lindauer "delivered, to the home of an United States government official, a letter in which Lindauer conveyed her established access to, and contacts with, members of the Saddam Hussein regime, in an unsuccessful attempt to influence United States foreign policy." The indictment gives no further details and does not include the identity of the government official, or whether that official reported the incident to authorities.

Lindauer is a former journalist for U.S. News & World Report, as well as for Fortune magazine and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. She also worked as a spokeswoman for then-Representative (and now Senator) Ron Wyden of Oregon, as well as former Sen. Carol Moseley Braun.
