To: Sam's Army
I still think supporting Israel is a good idea.

But why?

Maybe now it is--but perhaps if we hadn't gotten involved with Israel to begin with we wouldn't need to be involved with them now.

What's more, I do believe I heard (on NPR of all places) that it was John F. Kennedy (democrat) who was the first president to steer America towards Israel.

As I've gotten older, I realize that I in fact don't know everything. This little book called a Bible has helped do more and more thinking for me.

We support Israel largely because of the spiritual, moral, cultural and philosophical ties we have to them. That's enough for me--but it makes for weak arguing.

If you ask a neocon--"How is it in the interest of the US to support Israel?" hoping for some more practical or strategic reasons--and you'll likely find yourself called "Anti-Israel," a "Pat Buchanan" or the "antisemite Joe Sobran." Such quick reversions to guilt-by-association and other ad homina--
