Russia doesn't strike me as a country Al Queda would threaten; they profited from Iraq's oil contracts and were less than supportive in the war on terror.
If a fire was deliberately set, its a little late to impact their election.

That picture seems to show the fire in the Kremlin. I hope the Cathedrals and other antiquities were not touched, and of course no loss of life.
To: CedarDave
It's the old stable building of the czar's, fully engulfed now.

Gotta love how Fox is already hinting it is terrorism.

Bizarre. I just came from that area and didn't see a thing!

That's exactly what's burning. Reporter stated that only two fire engines responded initially, with only one putting water on the fire.

I'm hearing about it and first thing I thought of is their election and the timing of a huge fire outbreak
Ah, Simon Marks happens to be in Moscow and just mentioned same "coincidence" of timing.
Of course, it could in fact be coincidence...
To: koba37
Fox's guy on the ground made it sound like the fire started on the roof, and did not get a quick enough response before it was allowed to spread...

Historic building, now used as an exhibition hall. Fox reporter says initial response by firefighters was inadequate and now it is out of control. Started about one-half hour ago.

Do you think if a large fire burst out near the Capitol in DC on November 2 it would be OK to wonder if there was some connection to the fire and election?
That's all Fox did. Perfectly obvious wondering, not at all reporting that's what it was.
It most like IS a coincidence, but the timing raises the question.
To: cyncooper
Yep! IT's the old exhibition hall - I liked that place. Bummer.

It could be terrorism, but not "Arab" or al Queada terrorism. Chechnyan.
To: hole_n_one
Flames are so high they can now be seen even above the high wall of the Kremlin.

Agree. Always bad to lose physical links to history.
In past half hour fire has grown and flames are way high over the Kremlin wall; glow is very bright. Hope firefighters concentrate on surrounding structures; can't save this one.

Maybe the terrorists are going to start a elections bombing campaign. Of course Putin might be trying to go back to the good old days by burning some building and then cracking down on dissidents and framing them.

VIA FOX News: The building is an 18th century building next to the Kremlin, the "Menezh" (sp?). It appears the fire started on the roof of the building. Cause is still undetermined.
To: Fish_Keeper
Foxnews is doing pretty good coverage. Started just a few minutes after Putins victory.
Building built as Stables in 1819 now an exhibition hall.

Gregg Jarrett of FNC is without a doubt one of the dumbest on air personalities on that station. UGH!
Oh, maybe it's not a coincidence that the roof of this building is on fire since it began as the polls closed and Putin won by a landslide.
Wow, really conclusive evidence there!

If the Kremlin is torched down, The VRWC was in town.

To: dobberkcd
I thinks lots of people miss the fact that the chechens are muslim allies of Al Quaeda. Some coincidence, this building, standing since the early 1800's goes up in flames on election day, 3 days after Islamists try to influence Spanish elections. Some odd. I think I'll go buy a lotto ticket

Don't forget that the former Soviet Union, now known as the Russian Republic, is, and was the largest Third World country in existence.
Never underestimate the capacity of a bunch of drunk ex-commies to burn down their city through ineptitude, graft, ignorance and bureaucratic ineptitude.
It goes with the territory. No more, no less IMHO.
