NEW YORK (Billboard) - U2 frontman Bono will deliver the commencement address May 17 at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

The artist will also receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree at the ceremony. Bono is expected to discuss his work with Debt AIDS (news - web sites) Traffic Africa, which aims to raise awareness and funds to fight the continent's war against the disease.

"With his tireless efforts and use of his celebrity to remind us of our moral duties as citizens of the globe, Bono has been a powerful force for change, galvanizing the action of presidents, countries and the general public," Penn president Judith Rodin said in a statement.

U2 is moving along on its next Interscope studio album, due later this year. Last month, producer Steve Lillywhite joined the group for what is thought to the final stretch of the as-yet-untitled project.

Bono and U2 guitarist the Edge's appearance at the November 2003 '46664' AIDS benefit concert in Cape Town, South Africa, is included on the CD/DVD of the event, due April 5 via Warner Music International.

And what good has this done? Isn't AIDS still rampant in Africa? Isn't that why the President pledged to send millions to help fight the disease? Bono is a twit.

Say what you want about U2 but you have to admit the 9/11 halftime show they did for the Superbowl was incredible.

Geez... Bono is more useless than I thought. I'm guessing he won't give the President a thumbs up during his speech :)
