Club For Growth Endorses Herman Cain

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Herman Cain received the endorsement of Club for Growth, an organization dedicated to helping to elect candidates who support the Reagan vision of limited government and lower taxes. Club for Growth was founded in 1999 as a nationwide political membership organization dedicated to advancing public policies that promote economic growth. As a general rule, the Club sides with conservative candidates who have an excellent chance to win. This is seen by political insiders as a very significant development in the Georgia Senate race.

"I am honored and encouraged to have received the endorsement of the Club for Growth," said Cain. "They know that I will challenge the status quo in Washington DC so that we can unleash America's economic potential by replacing the tax code with a national sales tax, restructuring social security and stopping out-of-control government spending."

"Herman Cain is the quintessential American success story," said Club for Growth president, Steve Moore. "His rise to the pinnacle of corporate leadership is inspiring and admirable. From his small-town Georgia roots, to his success within the Pillsbury Company and Godfather's Pizza, he has developed keen insight into the impact of taxes on job creation, business expansion and prosperity."

Cain beat out Congressmen Johnny Isakson and Mac Collins for this very significant endorsement.

Founded by Steve Moore, National Review president Dusty Rhodes, Cato Institute president Ed Crane, Richard Gilder, economist and CNBC Kudlow & Cramer co-host Larry Kudlow and other like-minded, pro-growth conservatives, the Club for Growth has members that share a goal of electing more Reaganites to Congress who are willing to stand for the issues that they as members care about most. Issues like: cutting taxes, controlling federal spending, personal retirement accounts for Social Security, ending the death tax, eliminating the capital gains tax, fundamental tax reform, providing true school choice and minimizing government's role in our daily lives.

The Club for Growth Political Action Committee expects that its members will donate total contributions in the six-figure range for Cain's campaign.

The Club for Growth's record includes:

* The Club for Growth won 17 out of 19 of our targeted races in the Nov. 5, 2002 election. They also had a string of eight key victories in contested primaries.

* Their membership exploded from 1,500 to 9,000 during the 2002 election cycle.

* The respected National Journal ranked the Club as one of the most effective political organizations in America even though the organization is only five years old.

I never knew Larry Kudlow was a co-founder of CFG. You would think he would say something positive about Fundamental Tax Reform on the air once in a while. Maybe he does, just not when I watch.

Things are looking very good for the FairTax in Ga this election cycle. In addition to Herman, who would be a super advocate for the FairTax if elected, we have Robert LaMutt and 2 other pro-FairTaxers running for Johnny Isakson's seat. Those are just 2 races where we are likely to have someone who will be a stronger supporter than their predecessor.

What we have needed for a long time is someone who would help John Linder spread the word. We may finally be getting there. There are other candidates all over the country running on this idea now, especially in Texas. Too bad the White House is still too timid.

I am a Missourian but I have been trying to follow Cain's campaign. I think he would make an excellent Senator, but I haven't been able to find any polling numbers for the race. I have read that the RINO Isakson has built up a huge warchest. That having been said, do you think that Cain has a good chance of making the runoff and, if he does, of winning?

Yes, Herman has a great chance to go into a run-off with Isakson. In fact, I'm hoping that Collins and Isakson pick off each others candidates and Cain does even better than expected!

At the Nascar race this last weekend in Atlanta, I worked at the RNC Regiie the Registratin Rig, and was pleasantly surprised how many Georgians had heard of him, heard his commercials, and were really ready for a candidate like this.

I don't think Collins or Isakson have run any commercials yet.

To start with, it should be stated that Isakson is undoubtedly the favorite because of name recognition and $$$. That being said, Herman's people are saying that he raised slightly more $$$ than Isakson for the last reporting period and way more than Collins. The CFG endorsement should be an even bigger boost for Herman in the $$$ department. I think Herman should do well in the debates if he has some really good people grilling him on details to prepare him for them. He should be able to more than hold his own in debating tax policy - its the other issues that would concern me. He is certainly way more charismatic and dynamic than either Isakson or Collins.

Bottom line - I think he has a shot at a real upset. It is encouraging that he seems to have moved past Collins and to have Isakson in his sights.

I don't think that there are any polls out that are recent enough to be relevant. His ads, I think, are very good. They aren't very substantive, but are what I would call image ads. That is probably exactly what is needed to introduce him to Georgia voters. If he can get the voters to like him, he has 4 months to prove that he knows what he is doing.

OTH, it could have been a Freudian slip. NTU stands for National Taxpayers Union. They have endorsed the FairTax bill. I don't know if they have a PAC and can therefore endorse candidates. If they do, I would think that Herman has a good chance of getting a nod from them.

With my state of IL poised to elect Barack Obama, a black liberal, as US Senator, I hope GA Freepers would elect Herman Cain to the Senate to counteract Obama.
