A professor who claimed she was targeted in a hate crime that stirred student protests at the Claremont colleges is suspected of staging the vandalism herself, police said Wednesday.

Kerri F. Dunn's car was vandalized and covered with racist, anti-Semitic and sexist epithets on March 9, leading faculty to cancel classes and students to stage rallies the following day.

Oh, I couldn't agree more, Valerie. And I think she should be arrested, charged, tried and convicted under the very "hate" crime laws she herself has so stridently espoused. She held a whole community hostage for days on end, sowing terror into young people of color and of the Jewish persuasion. And she accomplished it by an act of vandalism that invoked hateful racial epithets.

You're gonna love this -- last year this b*tch chaired a WPA paper session at which two of the papers were (get this) about "communication patterns in hostage situations." LOLOL!

this California professor has not even been charged with anything, much less found guilty

I charge and adjudicate her guilty of being a poor dresser ...

It doesn't matter that it was faked. The important thing is that she brought attention to the scourge of racism.

Yep, the old socialist "ends justify the means" standby.

"...a really bad, horrific, incident.""...now if you'll excuse me, I gotta work on my chip shot."

I predict a bright future and a serene old age for Mr. White.

As the investigation continues Pitzer administration, faculty and students continue to explore issues related to tolerance and to discuss ways that an academic community can address these issues in our world. The first thing you can do is make a call for honesty. Quote from Pitzer College President Laura Skandera Trombley at a rally on the Mounds last Wednesday: "These events are tragic, disturbing and unacceptable. They have created a climate of fear in people and made us less secure in our community." If this act did all that damage, then whan Prof Dunn did was wholly unacceptable, stirring up fear and mistrust. She should be usmmarily fired for her extremely anti-social and divisive act.

The hate crime that occurred last night deeply affects our mission and personal safety. Then another reason to fire the professor. The vicious, hateful crime was designed to destroy the heart of our community, but as long as I am president of this college I will not let it happen. Any professor willing to destroy the heart of the community is unfit to be on the faculty.

As one faculty member reminded me, we are the conscience of the Claremont Colleges consortium. I believe we are the leader. People who commit these kinds of acts will not succeed in their aim." Since the aim of the perpetrator was to draw attention to herself, in future it would be important not to aggrandize victims of these crimes, nor assume that they are real 'hate crimes' at all until it is proven so. In future, take the acts for what they are - vandalism. But any professor willing to commit even vandalism is unfit to be a teacher.

The reaction you see here is mild and thoughtful - especially compared to the reaction she stirred up on campus.
Don't waste any more of your time doubting her guilt.

You're probably right. And unless the marxist faculty executes some really remarkable damage control, a good many of these kids just might snap out of their comas. Good thing she's not working for old Joe Stalin. He didn't tolerate mistakes like hers -- he recalled them to Moscow.

Good Evening All-

"...This act of dishonesty shows someone who is in no position to be honest with students. This professor should be fired and never hold a teaching position again..."

WOSG, this person hasn't even been charged with anything, much less found guilty. She is being slammed for her weight, her clothing, and her parents, but she could just as easily be COMPLETELY innocent.

There is NO evidence to suggest the professor committed this crime except for secret testimony from anonymous people who think they saw her. We're ain't talking O.J. Simpson-caliber culpability here. FReepers are clear-thinking conservatives, not knee-jerk leftwingers. I would think we would give her due process.

If guilty, the full weight of the law would fall upon her. Let all the evidence be gathered and presented first.

Regards,

Probably also guilty of not shaving or bathing, too.

"People don't want to accept that a well-educated, liberal community can have hate."

Well I for one KNOW a liberal community can have hate, it's just the slogans usually say "no blood for oil' on the defaced tire-slashed car, or some obscenity related to Bush or Christians. But it's not a hard stretch for these liberals to pretend to be their enemies and make up stuff.

Folks, please send a polite reasons letter to the President of the College president@pitzer.edu, she should be encouraged to do the right thing and fire the dishonest vandal who did this.

"...should be fired and never hold a teaching position again."

Yes, but we both know it won't happen that way. She took one for the team and now her future in academia is assured. No one will ever question her radical leftist credentials. She'll get the same red carpet treatment Anita Hill got for lying about Clarence Thomas.

Social influence strategies among Japanese and American college women. Kerri F. Dunn, Gloria Cowan.

Psychology of Women Quarterly March 1993 v17 n1 p39(14)

Social influence strategies of 40 Japanese and 41 American college women were compared. With the use of a free-response format, respondents were asked to describe how they get their way with their mother, father, male teacher/boss, female teacher/boss, male friends, and female friends. Contrary to expectations, content analysis indicated that Japanese women reported using strong and neutral strategies more frequently and weak strategies less frequently than American women. American women used manipulation (especially sexual manipulation) more frequently and reasoning less frequently than Japanese women. Analyses by target of influence indicated that these differences were not found when the target was a female friend but were demonstrated across most of the other targets.

Now this actually sounds like an interesting piece of research where the writers were honest enough to report what they found even though it didn't conform to their prejudices. Maybe it was the influence of Dunn's co-author.

IF she commmitted a hate crime even as a self inflicted one, why is it still not a hate crime? If in her hate she wrote racist and gender words on her vehicle in hope to induce a retaliation against another group or individuals, it stirred up fear and emotional distress for some members of that group as well for other minorities.

A hate crime is a hate crime is a hate crime. Charge her with a hate crime, it would have a deterent effect upon the copy cats we see every day in these self inflicted crimes to generate hate for the supposed group or individuals who are blamed but did not do the hate crime..

2 witnesses and she gave inconsistent statement. Plus if you read the Claremont college newspaper, you have your motive: She's an utter extremist who wanted the students to get more motivated about this stuff. With this incident they shut down classes for a whole day and had a huge rally.

Whoopdee-doo. Create all that fear and hate and divisiveness, just for a rally to say "We hate hate" ?!?!

What a maroon!

We are not a court of law, we are a message board.

She did it.
