Two killed while planting bomb under northern Iraq bridge

Kirkuk, March 18

Two people were killed while trying to plant a bomb under a bridge over the Zab river near the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk on Thursday, police said.

"The bodies of two people wearing traditional Arabic clothes and explosive charges were found at the scene," police officer Karim Ali Jabburi said.

"The bodies are mutilated, so it is difficult to identify them," he said.

Jabburi said the bridge was on the main road linking Kirkuk to the northern city of Mosul.

The road is used frequently by civilians, US troops and trucks transporting goods from Syria and Turkey.
