Reported to be two handguns involved. There are reported people the police want to question. That's all I've heard.

Are guns outlawed in Taiwan? If so, perhaps he assumed there are none.

Yes (for civilians), but Taiwan always has had gun crime. I don't know what their president was thinking, but a motorcade probably seemed the best way to rally many voters.

I BELIEVE

THAT IF CHINA REPORTED IT,

90% OF THEIR CITIZENS WOULD BELIEVE THAT BEIJING WAS BEHIND THE ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT.

To me it seems that the Chinese don't know what to say because their plan to kill Chen failed...

No, his right arm is raised above the man in front of him. Though it does look as if he has something in his pocket or he's happy to see the parade.

Apparently there was one shot that grazed the Prez and struck the Vice-Prez? Looks like it may have been a pistol shot from the back of the crowd from an assassin who was slightly higher than sidewalk level, maybe a second floor.

The President has to be the target; hitting the woman was probably an accident.

Whoever arranged the hit used a disposable dimwit like a Squeaky Fromme instead of a reliable "whacker".

Speculation ends.
