Actually, I would think that there are two issues: (1) are there any loose clots in the blood, and (2) if there are, where will they get stuck.
It would seem that severely constricted arteries would cause problems by themselves, but especially in combination with blood clots. On the other hand, even if a blood clot doesn't get stuck in a main artery, that still leaves open the question of where it will get stuck.
