I don't know internal Detroit politics, but it seems to me that this editorial is particularly significant in coming from the main Detroit newspaper, despite the growing Muslim presence in that area.

There are two major papers in the city, the Detroit News a somewhat conservative paper, and the Detroit Free Press which is a mouthpiece for the Democratic wing of the Democratic party.

The Detroit Free Press would never had printed something like this.
